Things I Wish I Had Known

Rose-Keyla Vasquez

Things I wish I had known:

life is difficult,

life wants to throw sticks and stones at you,

and we all go in blind.

Blinded by a sugar-coated childhood.

Things I wish I had known.

I wish I had known that love isn’t a fairytale;

Love doesn’t come in with a prince in shining armor.

Love in reality

is a two-way relationship that you need

to have experience to be better at.

Things I wish I had know.

I wish I had known how draining school can be.

School used to be fun.

School used to be so easy,

and I haven’t grown lazy!

I used to turn in every assignment;

I’ve just grown tired.

Things I wish I had known.

I wish I knew more about society.

I thought that I would make many friends

and that people would like me;

I was wrong.

People watch your every move.

These people, not caring that you are right there,

one slip up and it’s game over for your social ranking.

Oh, it could get worse

if you don’t know the name of a song, or an artist

if you don’t know the lyrics to a song

if you don’t know or haven’t seen a certain movie

if you didn’t have the same childhood TV shows

if you don't know the moves to songs that “everyone knows”.

It’s game over in your social ranking, or it could get worse.
