Cave to Sun

Avery Vaden

I had no worries.

My ideas and thoughts had to be buried;

What I was told was the way life went.

Sitting in a dark place and I can’t see my face

Shadows and figures were all I could see.

I want to escape, and let my curiosity free,

So the day I was unchained I had to flee.

Step by step I saw things anew.

The Sun's warmth blessed my soul and brain.

But when I returned to my peers it began to rain.

My discovery cursed me to be different and unseen.

The light and its warmth have caused me to bleed.

My acceptance had depleted once I left the scene.
