The Looking Glass 2022-23 | volume 41 | Page 29

He saw her from afar, a beauty so divine

Her smile, her laugh, oh how it did shine

He longed for her touch, her love, her affection

But alas, he knew it was but a mere obsession

He tried to approach her, to confess his love

But the words failed him, like a wounded dove

He watched her from afar, as she went on with life

Her joy, her laughter, cutting through like a knife

He wondered what it was, that made her so free

Why couldn't he have her, why couldn't they be

He tried to reason with himself, to move on

But his heart refused, like a stubborn pawn

He dreamt of her at night, and day

He yearned for her, in every single way

But she never saw him, nor did she care

For she had eyes for another, with whom she did share

He watched her from the shadows, as she laughed and smiled

And he knew that he would never be reconciled

He knew that he was but a mere admirer

A distant love, that could never transpire

And so he lived his life, with a broken heart

Knowing that they could never be a part

He loved her with every beat of his heart

But she never knew, and they remained apart

He watched her from a distance, as she lived her life

And he wished her nothing but happiness and light

He knew that he would never be her choice

But he loved her nonetheless, with every ounce of his voice

He knew that his love was a futile endeavor

But he loved her anyway, now and forever

For she was the one that he could never forget
