NATIONAL HOME SECURITY MONTH
Push forward with home security as the clocks go back
October signals the arrival of autumn . With temperatures dropping , weather changes and days beginning to shorten , it ’ s fair to say many of us look forward to the festivities of the season . But what homeowners may not have considered is that with these shorter days come longer nights - the perfect conditions for burglars .
» AND WITH RECENT STATISTICS from security expert , Yale , revealing that 65 % of Brits have not upgraded their home security in the last two years [ 1 ] , it ’ s become even more apparent that improving the protection of homes requires more prioritisation for homeowners .
The survey also showed how home security upgrades are typically a ‘ reactive ’ investment . 23 % of respondents made the decision to purchase security products due to their home being broken into , with a further 29 % doing so as a reaction to increased crime in their local area [ 1 ] .
So , with the vulnerable dark nights period ahead , paired with this lack of prioritisation of protecting UK homes , the National Home Security Month ( NHSM ) team are once again , pushing home security to the forefront .
National Home Security Month , from the security experts at Yale , is back for its tenth consecutive year , aiming to educate and prioritise protecting homes across the UK during the ‘ dark nights ’ period .
With a range of activity , NHSM , along with its supporters and leading retail and trade partners , will be pushing the importance of home security to homeowners across the UK .
And the campaign doesn ’ t just provide support to homeowners . NHSM also offers great opportunities for tradespeople who can utilise this widespread promotion , being there to provide their customers with all the security products they need to protect their home this autumn .
So , to help tradespeople maximise on home security sales this October , the experts at Yale have shared their insight into the key product areas which should be prioritised at this time of year to offer the best solutions for homeowners .
Internal security
Homeowners are well versed in the importance of internal home security . From burglar alarms to door and window locks , Brits are clearly aware of the basic security needs that are necessary to protect a home .
And when it comes to internal security , homeowners have devised their own alternative tactics to protect their properties . 52 % of Brits keep a light on when they ’ re out , with 28 % leaving a TV or radio on , and 24 % have even asked a neighbour to park on their driveway whilst they ’ re away [ 1 ] . But , whilst these tactics are effective in making a home look lived in , they don ’ t provide sufficient protection against a range of burglar attack methods .
