INDUSTRYNEWS • 5 PROUD SPONSORS OF THIS PAGE ASSA SECURE SOCIAL HOUSING BIN STORES »»ASSA, PART OF ASSA ABLOY Security Solutions, a UK division of ASSA ABLOY, the global leader in door opening solutions has worked with Warrior Doors to secure bin stores for Solihull Community Housing (SCH). SCH is an Arm’s Length Management Organisation (ALMO) set up in April 2004 to run the housing service on behalf of Solihull Council. SCH is undergoing a regeneration programme to upgrade the interiors, exteriors and surroundings for 35 high rise Social Housing council properties. As part of the phased regeneration, SCH decided that it needed to upgrade the bin store doors. The brief was specific: the doors had to be strong, aesthetically pleasing, vandal proof and vermin proof. They also had to be low maintenance, with low life cycle costs. A total of 37 sets of dilapidated doors to the bin stores, which were prone to vandalism and arson were replaced with Warrior Doors’ high quality brushed stainless steel doors. The doors contained ASSA’s 2788 deadlocks, which offer a robust design ideal for high usage areas. Brian King, project manager at SCH, said: “Security was absolutely imperative and it was also important that we wouldn’t have any substantial maintenance issues for a long period of time.” Dave Perryman, IT Operations and Project Manager at Warrior Doors Ltd, said: “We were aware that ASSA had extensive experience within social housing and they were able to provide us with the robust security solution we needed, to prevent people from breaking into the back of the tower blocks. I would have no hesitation working with ASSA in the future; the quality of their products is exceptional.” Russell Richards, Regional Sales Manager at ASSA ABLOY Security Solutions, said: “We are pleased to have been able to work with Warrior Doors to provide a secure solution for SCH, which will stand the test of time and consequently offer low life cycle costs.” Please find more information at http:// www.assa.co.uk/en/site/assacouk/ Northern exposure for WES+ »» INTEREST IN THE WORLD’S ONLY EN 54 compliant wireless fire alarm system, WES+, continues to grow in Europe with Norsecraft Tec AS becoming the latest new distributor. Norsecraft was first attracted to WES+ because it is the only wireless fire alarm system that is EN 54 compliant, a mandatory European standard that specifies requirements and laboratory test for every component of a fire detection and fire alarm system. Being fully compliant with EN 54 and using Category 1 (ETSI 300-220-1) receivers the battery powered alarm has a minimum three- year life. Norsecraft is a distributor of key brands in the fire suppression and lubrication sector as well as having established connections in the construction and insurance industry. This provides a perfect fit for Ramtech Electronics’ WES+ fire alarm system – insurers, including the large European insurance companies, are already requiring that construction sites in the UK have an EN 54 compliant fire alarm system. LOCKSMITHJOURNAL.CO.UK | SEP/OCT 2016 The fire call points can also be repositioning quickly and easily as the construction, refurbishment or demolition schedule progresses. Wired fire alarm systems present a number of issues in this area, including trailing leads and exposed cables. Glenn Mellegaard, Managing Director at Norsecraft Tec AS, said: “We have been very impressed with WES+ and have had encouraging feedback from our customers. As a result, our management team has already taken the decision to invest in a dedicated sales executive to maintain focus on WES+.” UK projects range from Crossrail, Heathrow Terminal 5, and demolition of Earls Court, plus many others. WES+ is used by around 75 of the top 100 UK contractors and Ramtech Electronics is looking to replicate this growth on mainland Europe.
