caught up with Abloy UK
Marketing Manager, Jon
Burke, at the recent MLA
Expo in Telford to hear the
company’s key messages this
autumn…
“Fire doors and exits on
escape routes are a big
concern for Abloy at the
moment, particularly those
where, by default, electro
door magnets have been
installed,” explains Jon. “We
are raising awareness of these
non-compliant installations
where there is a separate
‘press to exit’ button, and their
potentially life-threatening
implications. We are promoting
compliant, secure and energy
efficient solutions that are
‘specification-ready’.
“For example, in the event
of a gas leak, use of the call
point could, in fact, ignite the
gas. The repercussions of this
don’t bear thinking about but
unfortunately it is something
that affects many commercial
and non-residential properties
all around the UK.
“At the MLA Expo Abloy
is speaking to installers
and facilities managers,
or whoever is in charge of
building access and advising
them that custodial sentences
are now being issued for
non-compliance. It’s a tough
message but one that could
save lives,” Jon says.
Abloy isn’t one to rest on its
laurels and is following up
this message with the offer
of support to those needing
clarification on compliance as
well as matters of security and
energy efficiency through its
Foundations Course.
The Abloy Academy provides
training, including Foundation
courses, on what you need to
do to be compliant. Although
the courses are managed
by Abloy they are objective,
informative and are CPD
recognised. Full day courses
are available, as well as a RIBA
one-hour taster course.
From dedicated facilities in
Willenhall, the Academy covers
presentations, education and
certified hands-on practical
training. The course content is
particularly relevant to building
managers or directors,
main contractors who find
themselves in an advisory role
and even fire safety officers.
