NO TIME LIKE THE PRESENT

» IT HARDLY SEEMS POSSIBLE , BUT we have found ourselves at the end of another year in what seems like the blink of an eye . It doesn ’ t feel like 12 months since I sat down to write last year ’ s last letter for The Locksmith Journal ( try saying that after a few mulled wines !) but while it ’ s been a whirlwind , I see no signs of anyone slowing down at the moment .
On the contrary , plenty of people are saying they ’ re busier than ever ; expanding into new premises , taking on new workforce , and launching new products and ranges . Yet , set against a backdrop of a supply chain crisis , rising costs of raw materials and with travel ( international certainly but even national and local , not yet back to ‘ normal ’) – how is this physically possible ?
In fact , this Nov-Dec issue is by no means an end of the year edition – in fact it feels more like the beginning of something as company contributions are trying to address industry issues while pounding the path of their own growth and evolution . There ’ s no time to waste – or look back – to keep moving forward , the true trailblazers are pushing through the problems ; and letting nothing stand in their way .
Communication is key , and as publishers , we like to think we play an important part in that too . The past two years have proved that keeping everyone up-todate and well-informed is not only important from the ‘ top down ’ but plays a significant part in peer-to-peer conversations and inspiring new methods and coping mechanisms through all levels . Within the industry , the return of ‘ real-life ’ shows and expos have been extremely successful – no-more-so than October ’ s MLA , and the official review is just a few pages away – and it reaffirms that ignorance is never blissful and even non-shop talk is always useful , and welcome .
If I learnt one thing this year – or rather reminded myself of something important – it ’ s that we can never change what has happened or even what is happening right now , but if we are resistant to adapting to circumstances or adopting new ways of thinking , then those changes will get the better of us and we will get left behind . Complaining might make us feel better for a little while , but getting that whinge out of the way as quickly as possible and instead focusing on solving the problem ( which can sometimes be ourselves !) is the best route onwards and upwards .
And on that note , from everyone at The Locksmith Journal and Clearview Group , we wish you a very merry Christmas , happy holidays and a prosperous 2022 .
See you next year , Gemma , Editor

BRISANT LAUNCHES HOME TRUTHS BOOK

» BRISANT-SECURE HAS launched a new publication “ The Book of Home Truths ” which helps locksmiths and door installers explain to homeowners why Ultion will ensure their doors stay locked .
The book demonstrates the opportunities Ultion offers for the trade , with case studies of people ’ s homes who have been protected . Key crime statistics are laid out , which Ultion was developed to combat ; for example a staggering two thirds of burglaries occur when the homeowner is present . The £ 2000 security guarantee is explained .
It highlights technical points explaining about the inner core being made from molybdenum , an element 25 % tougher than iron . A QR code activates the augmented reality model to bring the lock ’ s technology to life . There ’ s the convenience of one key working all doors in the house , including the shed padlock , and that these can be delivered the following day .
Nick Dutton , CEO Brisant- Secure said : “ We have spent many hours compiling an authoritative handbook of all the marketing tools that have been created over the last ten years to help people sell more locks and doors . Now it can all be accessed in one place , making it easier and quicker to sell more .”
Ultion was created ten years ago in 2011 , in the founder ’ s garage . Steve Stewart ’ s knowledge of the workings of front door locks was the best in the UK . Fed- up with barrels which he could break through in nine seconds , he designed one that he knew would foil even the most skilled burglar .
The challenge was for homeowners to understand what he had created and understand why they needed it . That ’ s when Nick joined the team . In 2016 the partners created a video which bluntly showed the world that millions of people ’ s homes in the UK could be entered within nine seconds .
The “ Book of Home Truths ” explains why and how Ultion stays locked well after the burglars have given up .
