Locksmiths and door hardware professionals can access technical advice, continuing professional development (CPDs) and networking opportunities through Institute of Architectural Ironmongers (IAI) meetings. Regional meetings There are eight IAI branches across the UK and Ireland. The monthly meetings cover a range of topics from access control and the Internet of Things (IoT) to fire door regulations and social media. Branches also organise presentations from companies outside of the architectural ironmongery sector such as test facilities, building control and door manufacturers, to help ironmongers have a well- ‘monthly meetings cover a range of topics’ rounded knowledge of the whole industry. Affiliate IAI membership is ideal for locksmiths and other trades in the door hardware supply chain. Members receive regular e-newsletters on matters affecting the industry as well as unlimited access to the branch meetings. IRONMONGERY AND SECURITY GAI SPECIFIER’S GUIDE CPD Joanne Milne-Rowe, chair of the IAI, said: “CPD is a personal and bespoke professional journey, so the same programme of CPD doesn’t work for everyone. That’s why our flexible CPD programme is designed to meet individual developmental and personal learning needs by offering a range of ways to collect points.” Newly qualified GAI Diploma holders can also use these meetings to become a Registered Architectural Ironmonger (RegAI).
