Unlocking the potential of
Agrippa’s new generation
acoustic fire door technology
»»Locksmiths have a
potentially key role to play in
the successful installation and
use of fire door holders and
closers. As well as recognising
where their installation would
contribute to the safety of a
building’s occupants whilst also
enhancing access, the installation
of fire door furniture can offer
Locksmiths potentially valuable
business.
So news of a new generation of
acoustic wire-free door holders
and ‘swing-free’ closers that are
both easy to install and operate,
and very reliable, is good news.
Traditional hard wired fire
door holder and closer systems
are expensive to install and their
installation will often cause
major disruption to a building
and its occupants. The arrival of
first generation acoustic systems
brought with them an affordable
solution that could be installed
rapidly with no disruption to
occupiers, but questions have
increasingly been asked about
performance shortcomings,
such as their tendency to falsely
activate and damage flooring.
New technology solves
the fire door conundrum
Whilst the Agrippa acoustic range
of digital fire door holders and ‘swingfree’ closers are relative newcomers,
this range of new generation acoustic
wire-free fire door technology brings
with it a level of functionality and
reliability that’s being hailed by
installers and users alike. And as the
Agrippa acoustic units are standalone they can be installed when and
where required.
The Agrippa wire-free ‘Listen and
Learn’ range, comprising a digital
door closer and door holder, has
been developed by UK manufacturer
Geofire, who specialise in the
manufacture of a wide range of
electromagnetic door holders and
other activation devices used widely
as part of fire, security or ventilation
systems.
‘the ‘swingfree’ door
closer
offers the
optimum
solution
for fire
doors on
access and

routes’
‘Listen and Learn’ . . . the
Next Generation solution
The Agrippa range uses advanced
digital technology that uniquely
‘listens and learns’ the sound of a
specific fire alarm - an intelligent
learning function that optimises
settings to suit the installed position.
This ensures the devices release
action is triggered only in reaction to
the precise, characteristic sound of
the fire alarm rather than extraneous
loud noises, so false activations are
virtually eliminated.
Easy to install at the top of the fire
door, the Agrippa fire door holder’s
unique learning function optimises
settings to suit the installed position,
and it can be programmed for timed
daily releases. It requires only two
C cell batteries (which last for 12
months), has battery life indication
and low battery warning.
The ‘swing-free’ door closer offers
the optimum solution for fire doors
on access and circulation routes. The
closer’s ‘swing-free’ function makes
the door responsively light to handle,
and the closer’s closing speed is
adjustable, with a holding angle of
65-105 degrees. It learns the sound
of a specific fire alarm, releasing the
door in the event of a fire.
Both products are wire-free,
battery powered, compact and easy
to fit. They can be programmed for
timed daily release, are approved to
EN1155, EN1154 and CE Marked.
