PROUD SPONSORS OF THIS PAGE cctv AN EXPERT LOOK AT KEY TRENDS IN DOOR ENTRY & ACCESS CONTROL ROB SANDS, Technical Director at Videx, the experts in door entry and access control which has been supplying and manufacturing for almost 30 years, discusses the access control and door entry market in 2015 and what key trends and changes are likely to take place. The door entry and access control market will continue to develop in 2015 with enhancements in product appearance, functionality and technology. We are very technology aware these days mainly due to the widespread use of mobile devices such as smartphones, laptops and tablets. Door entry and access control products will continue to integrate with these devices, allowing users to increasingly administer, manage and control products from one device. One of the biggest trends that I think will be witnessed in the market is that we’ll be leaning increasingly more to integration. More and more systems will be capable of sharing cabling infrastructure with other systems reducing installation time and costs. This can already be seen with IP intercom systems and access control systems where they use an existing Ethernet network to communicate between devices both on site and online. GSM intercoms are also very popular now because of their flexibility and simplicity to install and program - allowing intercoms to be installed in locations where it is not possible or cost effective to run cables. At Videx, this year we launched our first IP video door entry system enabling customers to take advantage of the existing computer network infrastructure to install a video door entry system with one or more entrances to one or more video intercoms. Integrating this technology into our systems will enable us to develop more advanced systems in 2015 and beyond. In terms of other key industry changes, biometric finger print readers are steadily becoming more popular. At Videx, we’re currently launching a new range of readers for both standalone use and use on networked systems. A range of dual technology readers will also be available providing combinations of finger print, proximity and coded access readers. Using dual technology enables different users to use one or the other technologies or for high security applications a combination of both could be required to gain access. Standalone finger print access control kits are now available enabling installers who have not used finger print access control before to take their first steps with a simple to install and program system. The official UK Police flagship initiative, Secured by Design, which supports the principles of designing out crime is also a key development that locksmiths should know about as it’s going to continue to gain momentum in 2015. The initiative focuses on crime prevention of homes and commercial premises and promotes the use of security enhanced products that meet agreed standards. The principles have been proven To read more, visit www.locksmithjournal.co.uk to achieve a reduction of crime risk by up to 75 per cent. We were the first door entry system company to have our products pass the stringent tests and become approved. The approval demonstrates the vandal resistance of the products we design and manufacture and their ability to keep unauthorised people out of a building. Here at Videx we work hard to ensure that we have a continuous product development programme and, with the help of feedback from customers, we are always enhancing existing products with new features and developing new systems. In 2015, we have a range of new devices and systems coming to market and aim to continue being at the forefront of door entry and access control technology. We have already introduced and developed the Product Builder CD which allows customers to create their own estimates and product information by following a simple step-by-step wizard. Using this programme enables the user to create a parts list along with all support literature such as photos, datasheets and manuals which they can submit to their customer. As well as investing in new product development, we will also continue to invest in customer services which lies at the heart of the Videx philosophy. Investment in technical support, estimating and special projects is all planned to continue in the New Year. As well as telephone technical support, Videx offers free training to engineers and when required site assistance can be arranged. With offices in both the North and the South of England with full training facilities and field sales managers throughout the UK, Videx is able to offer the highest levels of support from the estimating stage through to installation and beyond. www.videx-security.com or call 0870 300 1240.
