INDUSTRYNEWS SPONSORED BY ALDRIDGE SECURITY AUTUMN IS PRIME TIME FOR BIKE THIEVES Locksmiths should ensure they offer a full range of security measures for all types of bikes at this time of year. According to TRACKER’s annual stolen motorbike recovery figures, 31% of all bikes it recovered in 2012 were stolen in the autumn months. Stuart Chapman police liaison officer for TRACKER says, “Our figures show that autumn sees the highest increase in the number of bikes being stolen with the summer months having the lowest amount of bikes being stolen and recovered. “In fact we saw a drop of 10% in bikes being stolen during the winter months, compared to autumn. Overall, £477,200 worth of motorbikes, mopeds, scooters and quad bikes were stolen and recovered by TRACKER during 2012. “At the end of a good biking season, it always pays to ensure you have taken adequate measure to protect your bike when you are not using it. These simple steps can save heartache and the expense of finding that your bike has been stolen while in storage for the winter.” Check out TRACKER’S security tips on the website. www.TRACKER.co.uk STERLING ADVICE ON FARM SECURITY To help farmers and rural dwellers protect their property, security experts Sterling Locks advise on some more simple measures to help decrease the vulnerability of items regularly targeted by thieves. Wherever the ladder is stored, it should be securely locked. Equipment such as power tools, strimmers & chainsaws can be locked together using hardened steel chains or security cables. Tools & equipment If ladders are kept on the property, they are a target for burglars who then use them to get further into the property. 2: ATVs/Quad Bikes Park out of sight. If outside, secure to a ground or wall anchor set into a solid surface. Sterling Locks offers 10mm and 12mm security chains with a protective nylon sleeve in a variety of lengths to give the reach necessary to padlock the vehicle to a solid object or security anchor. Consider fitting remote stand alone alarms for sheds or outbuildings. Digital door locks provide controlled access to buildings or garages without requiring everyone to have keys.
