Always look forward , but never forget …

» ON ONE HAND JUNE SEEMED TO COME FROM nowhere , even though it also was accompanied by fanfare and flags , bunting and a bank holiday . As magazine publishers , the cyclic nature of the month perhaps has a different meaning to us . The Locksmith Journal may ‘ only ’ be published six times a year , but several of the Group ’ s other titles come out every four weeks , so we always have to be a step ahead ; we ’ re in July now , even though June is only just underway .
Designers and developers also have to ‘ live in the future ’ to forecast what consumers will want and need ( perhaps before they know themselves ) and provide locksmiths and installers with all the products and tools they need . Manufacturers make calculated predictions on the specification and application of hardware and security then develop lines accordingly . As new legislation and regulation changes along the way , these must also be incorporated into products , practices and processes . These can take years of development before they are ready for launch , and we are proud as publishers to play our part in getting these products into the right hands : yours .
Yet , while these designs are worked on behind-thescenes , sometimes circumstances call for reaction rather than action . News and events in the industry can happen very quickly . Sometimes scenarios that seem outside of our sector can directly impact the daily work of locksmiths and installers . Global events >> economy >> evolving safety and security considerations call for real-time response , and as the gateway between companies and corporations , brands and businesses , we strive to connect our readers to the right people in the industry who can help them navigate these new issues as they occur .
With all that said ; while we should always strive to move forward , we can never forget where we have come from . The art of locksmithing , the history of hardware , the methods in which we have honed the craft , can be traced back to the dawn of time . We learn from experience ( I don ’ t want to say mistakes ) and there is comfort in nostalgia , which we can collectively enjoy and share .
With that in mind , I hope you enjoy this issue of The Locksmith Journal , for all of the aforementioned reasons , and moving forward , we are currently in the process of updating our social media channels across the Group to fill in the gaps between printed issues ; I ’ d love to hear your thoughts on your preferred platforms .
