Providing a range of physical and cyber security products to sectors including healthcare, education, manufacturing, government, banking, and civil defence - to name a few - Vanderbilt has won a slew of industry awards (for intrusion detection, control top panels, and innovation) in its less-than-six years of existence. Acquiring Siemens’ Security Products in 2015, and joining forces with ACT the year after that, Vanderbilt launched its first partner loyalty program, Aspire, in 2017. But for a company with such a short history, the secret to its success undoubtedly seems to rely on its forward-thinking approach when it comes to ‘multiple layer’ security solutions, protection of people and property, and the innovative software packages that get to work behind the scenes of its physical security hardware. In this Security Systems special, The Locksmith Journal gets a glimpse into a relatively young company, that manages to stay one step ahead of the ever-advancing modern-day threat to our personal security, data protection, and private possessions… A SOLID INVESTMENT When it comes to a complete security system that protects the public, personnel, and products, with a combination of access control, surveillance, and alarm systems, a bank provides the perfect case study. Vanderbilt describes its own banking solution as “a solid investment” with security systems that “meet the complex and unique requirements of the financial environment”. Recently, the company’s SPC security system was put to task when Vanderbilt was asked to work on a complete infrastructure security project for Italy’s Banca di Cesena Credito Cooperativo. The Cesena branch of the BCC consortium is HQ of over 300 not-for-profit financial organisations, with more than 40,000 branches, that have proudly served local Italian communities for over 130 years. “Security in banking i s an essential issue. It requires thoughtful attention and procedure, while allowing room for agility, adaptability, and dependability – flagship traits of the Vanderbilt brand. Banks wish to operate in an open and friendly layout while ultimately safeguarding their customers, staff, and assets. Vanderbilt’s solutions respond to these expectations and enable effective safeguarding foundations to laid,” says Vanderbilt. For this particular project, “the bank [BCC, Cesena] wanted a system that offered integration between access control and intrusion detection, as well as being reliable, easy to install, and futureproof.” Cue the Vanderbilt SPC. First, EN 50131-accredited SPC5000 (which can be expanded up to 128 zones/ outputs, 16 system keypads/doors, and eight verification zones), and SPC6000 (which can be expanded up to 512 zones/outputs, 64 system keypads/doors, and 16 verification zones) control panels were installed and integrated to the SPC Connect cloud. Next, a selection of financial- According to www.vanderbiltindustries.com: “Today around 85% of all alarms detected and reported by intrusion alarms are false alarms – no incident has happened. This increases the burden on intervention forces, which leads to longer response times and ultimately reduces the very security the system was installed to satisfy. The clear majority of these false alarms are not caused by the malfunction of a detection device, but by the user. Reducing these figures is becoming critical to the future acceptance and performance of intrusion systems. In combating this inconvenience, Central Monitoring Stations (CMS) - working with Vanderbilt’s SPC intrusion system - quickly, efficiently, and correctly identify the source of the alarm.
