ACCESSCONTROL • 49 PROUD SPONSORS OF THIS PAGE WHY ACCESS CONTROL? » » ECLECTIC SECURITY LTD Managing Director, Brian Mcaleer, discusses the benefits of offering access control… “The electronic security industry has been hit quite hard over the last few years with margins being squeezed by a whole raft of cheap produc ts appearing on the market. Okay, driving down the price can be good for the end user, but it ultimately means either increasing your mark-up on product sales, or selling a whole bunch more to get to the same amount of revenue. Now, when we bring in our competitors who are quoting for the same jobs, making the mark-up on the product isn’t so easy, and many smaller companies just don’t have the staffing levels to be running multiple installations at once. “This doesn’t necessarily apply to all sectors of electronic security. CCTV has probably been hit the hardest by this, with Intruder Alarm systems generally being historically low-margin. However, Access Control systems have not really been subject to this influx of budget brands, thus meaning that margins have remained relatively healthy and stable. With Access Control manufacturers making systems easier to quote, install and use, combined with innovative technology appearing on the market at quite a fast rate, the UK Access Control market has grown by approximately 7% in the last 4 years and is currently worth in the region of £325m (around 20% of the total UK electronic security market). “Whilst CCTV remains the largest sector (approximately 50% of the UK electronic security market), it’s limitations are numerous, namely that if the system isn’t remotely monitored, the only value it adds is after the incident. Similar with Intruder Alarms – the alarm is only raised after entry has been gained to the premises. Access Control by its nature is designed to stop unauthorised entry, but can also integrate with both the CCTV & Intruder systems (system dependant) to create a powerful, end to end solution. Why wouldn’t you want to include this in your skill set.” IFSEC 2017 STAND D1280 - INSAFE.COM/TRADE Nominated for Access Control Product of the Year » » GENIE’S AC5000SC HAS BEEN nominated for Access Control Product of the Year in the PSI Premier Awards.
