HINTS & TIPS What are the benefits of a smart lock? As people start to invest more in smart home technology, and the interest and desire to have in smart locks fitted to the home is increasing. Many homeowners get that niggling feeling around whether the front door has been locked when leaving the house. Benefits of a smart lock are that they enable homeowners to check this remotely, via their smartphone or tablet. Smart door locks also provide the opportunity to send friends, family or neighbours a temporary pin code or mobile key, granting short-term access to the property while the homeowner is away. Many consumers will also question how secure a smart lock is compared with a traditional lock. To ensure consistency within the market, the British Standard Institute (BSI) has adopted a locking standard known as TS621:2018, this is now the recognised UK standard for smart locking devices. To achieve the standard, products must undergo rigorous testing including quality and durability tests as well as physical attack testing. They also must undergo electronic manipulation and assessments designed to test the electronic security of the lock to ensure it is secure against advanced hacking methods. The first smart lock to ever be British Kitemark approved is the Conexis® L1. This standard has been designed to provide homeowners with the peace of mind that they can enjoy the convenience and lifestyle benefits of a smart lock, without having to compromise on the security of their home.
