Guide to Smart Locks
Smart locks are fast becoming a popular
aspect of the connected smart home.
» AS THE POPULARITY OF SMART
locks begins to increase, locksmiths
are being asked to swap out existing
door locking mechanisms for smart
alternatives. Here is our guide to two of
the most common types of lock.
Smart locks for Multipoint Locks
Smart lock solutions for multipoint
locks usually work off the cylinder and
multipoint lock point, making these a
quick and simple to install, it is an easy
retrofit solution. With features such as
keyless entry, and mobile keys, smart
locks give consumers greater control
over who has access to their property,
how and when.
The Yale Conexis® L1 Smart Lock
is a simple retrofit solution, which is
compatible with 92mm lock centre lift to
lock multi-point locks, and only requires
a cross head screwdriver to fit it.
Multipoint smart locks will be provided
with different door fixing, to accommodate
different door profiles. For example, the
Yale Conexis® L1 Smart Lock is supplied
with three sets of fixings and features
Yale’s patented adjustable fixing plates,
meaning as long as there is a 92mm lock
centre it doesn’t matter where the fixing
screws are positioned on the existing
handle you are replacing – the Yale
Conexis® L1 Smart Lock will fit.
When fitting a multipoint lock smart
lock replacement, such as the Yale
Conexis L1, the euro profile cylinder is
replaced with a patented actuator, this
reduces the risk of any confusion or
room for error in selecting the correct
euro profile cylinder size.
This concealed actuator allows the
lock to be truly keyless and takes away
the most vulnerable part of a multipoint
lock solution – the cylinder.
The Conexis® L1 Smart Lock is
accompanied by a Smartphone App,
which enables users to unlock the door,
change settings and allocate mobile
keys.
Smart locks for Nightlatch Locks
There are also smart variants
now available for doors fitted with
nightlatches, which includes the Yale
Keyless Lock. As with smart multipoint
locks, nightlatches with smart capabilities
offer keyless entry and can also enable
users to unlock remotely. Many also
include a keypad for PIN code entry.
The Yale Keyless Lock is compatible
with any 60mm backset nightlatch.
This lock will replace the traditional rim
cylinder that is used with the nightlatch,
and allows keyless entry via a PIN code,
key card, tag or fob.
The Yale Keyless Connected and
Conexis L1 Smart Locks both come
supplied with 4 x AA batteries and
features the 9V emergency power
points and low battery warning to ensure
homeowners can always get power to
their lock.
