turning a knob , does the lock need to be DDA compliant ?
What are the door or gate specifications ; style , door thickness , door material ?
* For gates in exposed areas , or steel railing gates having combination on both sides ( double sided ) will safe guard both the entry and exit side .
Will the customer need auto locking or manual locking , dead bolt , hook bolt or latch bolt , mortise or surface mounted ?
What additional features are required such as , hold back facility and or free passage ?
What about key override ( available as keyed to differ , keyed alike or master keyed )?
* Key override is most preferred when there are a number of locks installed in the same premises , all with different codes . Management , security or maintenance can have the key option rather than have to know all the codes or in case of lost / forgotten code .
‘ In short , mechanical digital locks are a simple but effective way of controlling access ’
Are the doors previously tested or assessed single or double leaf fire rated timber door sets , if so the digital door lock will need to be or has been fire tested in accordance to BS EN 1634-1 : 2014 or BS 476 : part 22 and supplied with the manufacturers specified intumescent kit .
* The intumescent kit is wrapped around various pieces of the ironmongery ; acting as an insulator and protecting weak points caused
by installation of hardware , helping to prevent the spread of fire by expanding when heated to preserve the lock and seal any gaps .
Do the locks need to be approved to British standard BS 8607:2014 + A1:2016 ?
* Mechanically operated push button locksets . Requirements and test methods .
What about additional hardware that will enhance the overall effectiveness of
the lock such as good quality doors closers or gate closers , in turn this will also bring in additional income for the supplier and installer .
In short , mechanical digital locks are a simple but effective way of controlling access . The various lock options now available have expanded their sales potential and we should take advantage of that market where traditional digital locking is still preferred .
