NEW TO LOCKEX 2018 – SECURITY & Fire Safety, the‘ Pavilion of Trade Bodies’ will provide visitors and exhibitors alike the chance to meet with leading authorities across the locksmith, autolocksmith, security and fire safety industries. Two of the latest such organisations to secure their places in the‘ Pavilion’ are the Door & Hardware Federation( DHF) and the National Security Inspectorate( NSI).
Celebrating its 120-year anniversary in 2017, DHF is a non-profit association that – in its own words – has become“ the go-to place for technical advice and training”, which in turn“ lends itself to raising the standards of the industry”. With more than 400 members, DHF represents all the key players in the locks and building hardware, doorsets, industrial doors and shutters, domestic garage doors and automated gates sectors.
With the aim of maintaining and raising quality standards throughout the industry, it is a requirement that all DHF members must meet minimum standards of competence and all operate within a Code of Conduct governing standard of
workmanship, quality assurance, training, safety, business integrity and CE marking compliance.
Bob Perry, DHF CEO remarked:“ Being part of Lockex 2018 couldn’ t have come at a better time for DHF and NSI. There have been significant advancements with regards to gate automation over the years, particularly pertaining to access control, and with these changing times, DHF’ s guidance and training has never been more crucial. With that in mind we are pleased to announce that in March 2018 we updated our Technical Specification DHF TS 011, Code of Practice for the design, manufacture, installation & maintenance of powered gates & traffic barriers and is freely available to download from our website. It’ s steadily becoming the‘ bible’ for gate installers and is used as a tool by NSI to audit against for their Gate Scheme.”
“ The problem for today’ s locksmiths, is that locks are no longer just locks and keys!” he continued,“ Modern locksmiths are now expected to work on a wide range of technologies, with locks now being commonly electronic devices which use swipe cards, key fobs and keypads for access, collectively referred to as‘ access control systems’”.
” DHF is thrilled to be working alongside NSI again to provide support, information and guidance to those attending.”
The NSI is the UK’ s“ leading independent, UKAS accredited specialist certification body approving companies in the security and fire safety sectors to British and International Standards”, with almost 50 years’ experience of helping to protect people where they live, work and spend their leisure time. Installers of automated gates and barriers are able to become NSI approved to show their clients that they have been independently audited against the DHF code of practice, and authorised to issue Certificates of Compliance to clients of new powered gates and barriers installed in accordance with the DHF Code of Practice.
Richard Jenkins, NSI’ s Chief Executive commented:“ We are very much looking forward to exhibiting alongside the DHF at this year’ s Lockex. NSI is committed to raising safety standards, improving the reputation of the security industry, and reducing the risk presented by unsafe gates. We are proud of our collaboration with the DHF in working together to achieve these goals.”
The DHF and NSI will be joining organisations such the Guild of Architectural Ironmongers( GAI), Security System and Alarm Inspection Board( SSAIB), Fire Door Inspection Scheme( FDIS) and UK Construction Week. With notable names from all industries on hand to discuss the latest certifications, CPD points and exclusive master classes and workshops, visitors will be secure in the knowledge that – at Lockex 2018 – Security & Fire Safety – they’ re with the very best in the business.
