CONGRATULATIONS TO O ’ MALLEY and Sons of Ballina , north County Mayo , Ireland , our lottery winner for this issue .
O ’ Malley Builders was established by Michael O ’ Malley in 1972 , after working in the building industry for more than 10 years previously . The company has worked on a wide range of projects over the years ; predominantly refurbishment work , as well as building new homes , undertaking repairs , home improvements with extensions , alterations to houses and being there for emergencies . The company recently completed a 14-month project , refurbishing the trusses on a local cathedral .
The business grew with new commercial and public works across Ballina and Mayo , including schools , churches , offices , retail and industrial . In 1981 , O ’ Malley and Sons Ltd ( Ballina ) was formed , with both Michael ’ s sons , Michael ( Jnr ) and Fergal , later joining the business . This allowed the business to increase the range and complexity of work it offered ; Michael , with his qualifications and experience in surveying and project management , and Fergal ’ s carpentry and site management .
Fergal joined the business in 1992 and is in many ways the face of O ’ Malley & Sons . As a fully qualified carpenter , Fergal was often called-out by the local Garda to board up the windows and doors of buildings that had been broken into . In most cases , the services of a locksmith would also be required and , with the closest one being over an hour away , Fergal saw an opportunity and completed his training as a locksmith in 2008 . Since then , O ’ Malley and Sons has offered a 24-hour locksmith and boarding up service along with emergency and repair callouts . Fergal says the locksmith business has also benefited from homeowners frequently changing their home insurance provider , as this often requires them to have their locks changed . “ As a result of changing the locks on a property , the owner will often ask me to carry out other jobs as well ,” Fergul explains .
More recently , O ’ Malley and Sons has completed the rigorous audit process to become PSA registered , in line with new licensing regulations introduced in Ireland earlier this year . “ We are pleased to announce that we have been successful and are just waiting to receive our registration number , which we will put on our website as soon as we have it ,” Fergul added .
