IP is an abbreviation for internet
protocol and is the common protocol for
transmitting data packets across networks.
It is the backbone of the internet and
nearly all data communications.
Ethernet cabling is the standard method
for wiring an IP network. Most likely if you
have connected to the internet through a
broadband connection, you will have used
an Ethernet cable to do so.

Put simply, an IP camera is a networked
digital video camera that transmits data
over an Ethernet link.
The main difference between digital
IP and analogue cameras is the way in
which their signal is delivered. Analogue
cameras convert the information into
electric pulses of varying amplitude, a
format that can then be received by a TV
