CASE STUDY SPARE KEY
A job we often get asked about at Autowave is BMW 1 Series FEM Spare Key Programming . Here we use the ACDP – available from the Autowave the UK exclusive distributor .
Vehicle info : 2018 BMW 1 series
Scenario : In this scenario the vehicle doesn ’ t support an OBD connection and is using a FEM system . The FEM unit will need to be removed from the vehicle so that a new aftermarket remote can be programmed to the vehicle .
Equipment being used : For this job you will need an ACDP Basic module which will connect to a PC via USB and to a compatible ACDP Module , the ACDP Module which is required for this job is a Module 2 which is designed to program new keys directly to BMW FEM Systems without soldering . The remote required for this job is a BMW F Series CAS4 / FEM Blue 4 button smart remote ( AUTRK0179 ). All of these products can be purchased from www . autowave . co . uk
The following steps will explain how to use these products to program a new aftermarket key to a BMW using a FEM system .
Takeaway message : The takeaway message is to show how easy it can be to program keys to vehicles which don ’ t follow the typical process of connecting to a vehicle via OBD . As long as you have the right equipment the job can be just as easy .
1 . These are the products which are required for the job .
4 . Once connected you will need to prepare the FEM until so you can connect it to the ACDP module . It is important to remember the positions of the fuses on the FEM before removing the casing , so it ’ s a good idea to take a photo of them first .
2 . Firstly , you will need to locate the FEM unit in car . The FEM unit is located on the passenger side inside the footwell on the left-hand side . It is located behind the trim so you will need to remove the trim to expose the FEM unit before removing it .
5 . At this stage the casing can be removed from the FEM unit . You can do this by prizing open the casing in these points .
7 . From here you will have to select the option for the FEM / BDC initial programming process . You will then see 2 options for automatic programming and manual programming . For this task choose automatic programming but first click the ‘ help ’ button to get the instructions on how to connect the different pieces of the module to the FEM board .
3 . Once the FEM unit is out of the vehicle , it will need to be connected to your preferred device , whether that be a PC or Mobile . If you are connecting to a PC you will need an ACDP Bluetooth USB adaptor .
6 . Now that ’ s done , click onto the BMW option on ACDP main menu , then select FEM / BDC , Then , select IMMO and then lastly select add key .
8 . Once you have finished connecting the module to the FEM board , exit the help menu and select the option for Automatic programming , this will begin to check the FEM for information and ensure that everything is connected correctly .
