ยป THE GUILD OF ARCHITECTURAL Ironmongers ( GAI ) is the only trade body in the UK that represents the interests of the whole architectural ironmongery industry including architectural ironmongers , wholesalers and manufacturers . Its education programme has been developed over 50 years and is the only internationally recognised architectural ironmongery qualification to British and European standards .
Foundation in Hardware is an online course that gives a basic overview of architectural ironmongery products , standards and the fundamentals of access control . The final online examination can be taken as many times as needed until the 80 % pass rate is achieved and a Certificate of Competence will be awarded upon completion .
The Certificate in Architectural Hardware is a self-led , online course and examination in two stages . It is particularly useful for those working in related warehouse and trade counter roles , scheduling and estimating , customer service , technical support , sales and administration .
Certificate in Architectural Hardware Stage 1 provides a greater understanding of ironmongery , including locks and latches , fixings and basic scheduling . On completion , the student will be fully competent in making informed decisions with particular products and materials ;
with a good understanding of best practices and industry standards .
Certificate in Architectural Hardware Stage 2 takes learners to the next level , showing them how to apply product and industry knowledge ; plus more in-depth understanding of components such as fire door hardware , access control systems and intermediate scheduling .
Once the Certificate in Architectural Hardware has been completed , students can continue their professional education with the GAI Diploma . This focuses on the skills needed for scheduling the architectural ironmongery , electric hardware and key control ; particularly importance for projects constructed to UK and European standards .
