drilling, bumping and picking
tests.
As one of the most secure
cylinders available, the
Schlosser Technik 3 Star
features a patented trap
pin system which has been
intricately designed to ensure
the hardened molybdenum
centre is completely locked out
during an attack. A key benefit
of the trap pin system is that in
the aftermath of the stopped
intrusion, the fully secured door
can still be opened and closed
from the inside using the key.
To supplement the patented
trap pin system, it has a snap-
secure design offering two
sacrificial sections which will
break away when attacked by
lock snapping. The remaining
part of the cylinder can still
be accessed via key after any
potential attack.
In addition to advanced
anti-pick pins and non-
responsive anti-bump pins,
the cylinder enters the market
as one of the most secure anti-
drill cylinders. 22 hardened
steel pins are reinforced with
strategically placed hardened
steel plates positioned
throughout the cylinder to
completely block attempted
drilling attacks.

In the design stage, one
main concern was the need
to reduce the amount of stock
that locksmiths have to carry in
vans or shops. To resolve this,
the Schlosser Technik cylinder
features a non-handed design
as well as a dual colour finish,
meaning stock levels are
potentially quartered.

FOR SOUTH WALES CPD

hardware professionals can now access
technical advice, continuing professional
development (CPDs) and networking
opportunities through regular Institute of
Architectural Ironmongers (IAI) meetings
in Wales. Locksmiths can attend two
branch meetings free of charge, to see how
the meetings can benefit them.
The South Wales branch has recently
reopened, with Shaun Brown of GE
Doors taking on the role as chair. The
meetings are held every third Tuesday of
the month at the Aberavon Beach Hotel
in Port Talbot, with a short summer break
in August. These meetings include CPD
presentations from manufacturers and
offer great networking opportunities.
Shaun Brown, the new chair for the
Wales branch, said:
“We have a successful branch, with
loyal and friendly members - some who
have been regular supporters for the

last 18 years - and new members joining
regularly. We hope the branch will
continue to grow in numbers, and we
invite everyone to come and see the value
of these events.
“We had a record number of attendees
to the most recent CPD presentation
looking at the Internet of Things (IoT)
and the ironmongery industry. It was a
fascinating presentation, showcasing new
products and solutions that are not only
affordable, but easy to fit, operate and
manage.
“As practising professionals, we need to
be open to these advances in technology,
embrace the future, and understand the
wealth of opportunities for our businesses
and our customers alike. This is why
committing to CPD is so important.”
The IoT and ironmongery industry CPD
covers the early days of ‘wiremongery’
through to the latest products and designs.
This includes battery-operated locking
and access control solutions, and products
using 4G, mobile phone networks and the
internet.
This is one of the newest CPDs being
offered at the IAI branch meetings. It
has been popular among all branches,
including the South East branch where
there was a particularly high turnout.
Samantha Thatcher, chair of the South
East branch, said:
“The IoT CPD was well presented
and extremely informative. It sparked
interesting discussion within our branch
and between industry peers, both at the
branch meeting and on social media
afterwards.”
