SENSIBLE FIRE
DOOR ACCESS AND
SAFETY SOLUTION
» » UNION, PART OF ASSA
ABLOY Security Solutions, a
UK division of ASSA ABLOY,
leader in door opening
solutions, has introduced
DoorSense, a legal way for
fire doors to be kept open
for access and can close
automatically in the event of
an alarm.
DoorSense is CE marked to
EN 1155 standards, meeting
legal requirements to allow fire
doors to be kept open, assisting
access and providing greater
movement in a building when
needed, while reacting fast
should a fire occur.
DoorSense is a battery
operated standalone
system, activated by simply
opening a fire door pushing
the system’s foot plunger
down into the floorplate,
holding the door open
to ease access into the
building. When a fire alarm
sounds, DoorSense uses
sophisticated acoustic
technology to identify the
alarm and automatically
release the foot plunger,
allowing the fire door to
firmly close via a separate
door closer.
Offering simple
installation with no wiring
required, DoorSense can
be easily retrofitted to
doors using older holding
mechanisms, will work
at any angle, and can
be released manually or
automatically via the alarm
or by using a built-in night
closing timer.

Housing charity
chooses Master
Key Suite System
» » A HIGHLY-SECURE
Master Key Suite system,
installed by Delta Security, is
helping to protect residents
within properties managed
by Brick by Brick, a London-
based charity that provides
permanent and temporary
housing for people with
homeless status.
The Evva EPS Master Key
Suite system provides the Brick
by Brick Housing Managers
with one key that can be used
to open all flats within its
properties. The 6-pin security
keys cannot be copied, each
key can be identified and
tracked with a unique coding,
and only Delta Security can
provide replacements.
Isabelle Gravenstein, General
Manager at Brick by Brick says,
“Residents now only require
one key for their properties,
and the doors have a ‘roll-on’
locking system, whereby they do
not lock when the door closes,
rather are required to be locked
when leaving the property.”
The system is also beneficial
for housing managers: “All
housing managers now carry
one key and can access any
property should the need arise
while making a site visit. It has
significantly improved the
efficiency with which we are
able to perform our roles.”
Isabelle and her team are
very happy with the service they
received from Delta.
UK TRADESPEOPLE AT RISK
» » A SURVEY RELEASED TO
mark Health and Safety Week
(19-23 June) has revealed
that tradespeople are putting
themselves at risk of serious
accidents and missed earnings
due to a lack of health and
safety knowledge.
The survey from
Ironmongery Direct, of nearly
700 tradespeople across the
UK, has revealed that 70% of
tradespeople that have had
an accident at work have
ended up in A&E. One in six
tradespeople also admitted
that they have never attended
a health and safety course,
despite 91% thinking they are
important and 70% consider
they should be mandatory.
Results also revealed that
younger tradespeople are
more health and safety savvy
than older generations, with
just 13% of 31-40 year olds
having had an accident at
work compared to almost a
quarter (23%) of 51-60-year-old
tradespeople. Not surprising
considering that nearly a
quarter confirmed they last
attended a health and safety
course more than five years
ago.
More worrying, one third
(31%) of the respondents
who are sole traders have
no specific work insurance
and only 15% have accident
and sickness insurance, not
only putting their health and
wellbeing at risk but potentially
their financial security should
an accident occur.
