ASSA ABLOY UK SPECIFICATION RELEASES NEW WHITE PAPER ON BIM
»»
ASSA ABLOY UK Specification, a UK division of ASSA ABLOY, a global leader in door opening solutions, has released a new whitepaper discussing the future of Building Information Modelling( BIM) and how this is set to revolutionise construction projects.
Entitled‘ BIM: The Future of Smart, Sustainable Buildings,’ the guide is available for download from http:// marketing. assa-abloy. co. uk / BIM-White-Paper.
According to the most recent National BIM Report, 54 % of the UK construction industry has adopted BIM, a figure set to rise to 97 % within five years. Effective information sharing is one of the biggest challenges facing the global construction industry, and BIM is becoming an increasingly vital solution. An accurate and collaborative methodology, BIM uses digital tools to enable co-operation and information sharing across design, construction and facilities-management processes.
The whitepaper shows how a BIM-enabled approach helps facilitate sustainable design, reduce costs and boost productivity for all stakeholders. It also demonstrates how this approach helps organisations more effectively manage information throughout project lifecycles, helping to ensure optimised performance, comfort and reliability, and positively impact on building safe, secure and sustainable solutions.
To meet this demand, ASSA ABLOY has introduced ASSA ABLOY Openings StudioTM and BIM Door Solutions. These innovative, BIM-enabled product specification tools help users create tailored door opening solutions, offer a wide range of high-quality BIM-ready openings packages, and are supported throughout by ASSA ABLOY’ s expertise.
Tim Checketts, Specification Director, says:“ There is rising demand for manufacturers to provide BIM objects, as this allows for a more collaborative approach to projects. This whitepaper considers why BIM is so much more than just advanced 3D modelling – it enriches data on every design element, leading to better-informed design decisions.
“ According to McKinsey research, 75 % of those who adopted BIM reported a positive return on investment, shorter project lifecycles and greater cost savings. However, to appreciate its full effects, it’ s crucial for all stakeholders across the supply chain to be BIMenabled. We hope this guide will help towards that goal, and help in the delivery of high-performing, secure and environmentally-friendly buildings.”

Buildings of the Future: science fiction or science fact?
»»
THE WORLD IS CHANGING at an exponential rate and science fiction is fast becoming science fact. We are moving towards an increasingly digital, interconnected society and with it comes the realisation that everything we know will change.
The built environment has been slower than other industries to react to this change. In some ways, it’ s been in‘ catch-up’ mode. The reality is that operational construction functions, activities and experiences, as well as expectations around performance, are evolving and so too must the built environment.
To better understand how it can help its clients anticipate the journey towards Buildings of the Future, Aurecon has released a white paper called‘ Buildings of the Future: science fiction or science fact?’.
Inspired by interviews with a group of professionals across the built environment who were asked to imagine what Buildings of the Future might look like and how they might be created.
“ The major drivers identified in the paper have the potential to reshape the built environment industry in the next 30 years,” comments Peter Greaves, Aurecon’ s Buildings of the Future Leader.
According to the paper,‘ Buildings of the Future: science fiction or science fact?’, one of the biggest disruptors to the design engineering industry is that of new 3D

printing technology, and the impact it will have on the built environment Aurecon’ s white paper shows that a‘ one-sizefits-all’ approach to Buildings of the Future is becoming less and less palatable.
Another opportunity highlighted by the paper is further innovation in the building management field by developing shared services in facilities management within a precinct.
“ Aurecon believes that the first real innovators in the facilities management space are likely to be those who explore the idea of shared building maintenance hubs,” said Greaves.
“ Those who shape Buildings of the Future will be those who, firstly, realise that our world is changing and have the boldness to not only let go of, but question, the status quo so that working with government and economic leaders, we might reimagine our physical spaces and infrastructure”, asserted James Bennett, Aurecon’ s Managing Director, Built Environment.
