ABUS releases NEW ‘no
compromises’ Bravus
Locking System
ABUS has announced the release of Bravus, the
new ‘no compromises’ locking system which will be
available in the UK from October 2014.
Bravus is the second system
from ABUS that utilises the
patented and trade mark
protected Intellitec system.
This system guarantees
both a patent until 2030 on
the cylinder and key, plus
an additional infinite trade
mark protection for the key.
Unlike other systems which
trade mark the profile, ABUS
has applied a trade mark
specifically to the shape and
position of the Intellitec pin
which is vital to the operation
of the cylinder. Unauthorised
duplication of the key that
does not mirror exactly the
precise Intellitec pin causes
the cylinder to deadlock. This
is further backed up with
the safe knowledge that only
authorised ABUS dealers
are allowed access to the key
cutting programs associated
with cutting Bravus keys.
‘Suitable to cope
with simple domestic
requirements up to
complex commercial
applications’
The keys are reversible,
designed for ease of use and
are available in both shared
and unique profiles. The
key section at 3.5mm thick
provides an extremely robust
key. Cutting of the key blank
does not weaken the key as
has been found to be the case
with traditional keys when cut

to the deepest depths. With a
smooth finish and ability to
insert the key in two directions
(reversible), the key is ideal for
use where safe fast access is
required such as care homes
and hospitals, in addition to
applications where the keyway
is difficult to see, such as late
night access to a padlock on
the gate of premises.
Bravus is offered with three
levels of pinning and security.
Bravus 1000, 2000 & 3000
makes for a truly flexible
system suitable to cope with
simple domestic requirements
up to complex commercial
applications. System 1000
contains a single row of 6
sprung load locking pins.
System 2000 is supplemented
with an additional row of
four sprung loaded locking
pins, and system 3000 is
supplemented with a third
side located row of six locking
elements.
MAJOR BENEFITS
One of the major benefits to
the Bravus system is the ability
to combine all three levels
within a single master key
system. For example, Bravus
3000 can be used for high
security requirements such as
a server room, and Bravus 1000
can used in any common areas
such as corridors, a cleaner’s
cupboard etc. With this
arrangement a Bravus 3000 key
would pass through a Bravus
1000 cylinder, but a Bravus
1000 key would not operate a
Bravus 3000 cylinder.
ABUS has made stocking
Bravus even simpler. Starting
with the bodies, which are
available in a format they call
DM. DM stock is a pinned
body minus the cores which
is replaced with a throw away
biodegradable plastic core. All
three Bravus levels 1000, 2000
& 3000 use the same body. This
is also true of the cores and
keys, one core and one key for
all systems making for a very
cost effective solution. This
flexibility gives the distributor
the choice of offering any of
the three levels on its own, or
a mixture of all three levels,
while only stocking effectively
one body, one core, one key.
To add even greater
flexibility, Bravus is also fully
compatible with an extensive
range of serviceable padlocks,
including coloured padlocks
suitable for lock off options,
weather proof padlocks
for harsh and exposed
environments, and high
security padlocks including a
CEN 6 padlock option.
From its Bristol-based
offices, ABUS is able to offer
full technical assistance
including assembly training of
the Bravus range. By sharing
with the factory the same
Lockbase master key suite
software, ABUS can transfer
safely and fast key master
suite documents including
key bitting and cylinder
pinning information for use by
distributors.
‘A truly flexible
system that covers
all of their needs
while minimising
stockholding to
one body type, one
core and one key’
The new ABUS Bravus
cylinder range offers
distributors a truly flexible
system that covers all of their
needs while minimising
stockholding to the one
body type, one core and
one key; with the benefits
patented and trade mark key
protection suitable for the
most demanding of customer
requirements.
