Total defence against cylinder snapping

Locksmiths will be well aware of the recent coverage highlighting the increasing number of burglaries involving lock snapping . Here , Suresh Peri , Head of Commercial and Technical at Mul-T-Lock UK , looks at how locksmiths can step up to the challenge to provide necessary peace of mind to homeowners .
Professionals have long used snapping methods as a means of opening doors where keys have been lost , but some of this precious industry knowledge is falling into the wrong hands . With trending videos highlighting how to use the method for opportunist criminals .
Whilst the industry has been combating lock picking , bumping , drilling and even cylinder plug extraction , a growing area of concern is cylinder snapping and the use of blowtorches by would-be burglars . We as an industry , have a duty to protect .
This issue has been trending recently on national and social media . And since , we have heard from many locksmiths right across the UK , who have reported an upsurge in consumer enquiries about changing their locks to something more secure .

As we know , the reason intruders use blowtorches is that they are trying to remove the handle from around the lock with minimum noise and risk of being disturbed . But also , so they can get a good grip on the lock to snap it . On standard locks , once the cylinder snaps , the door will open .
