MAINTENANCE & REPAIR |
||||||
What Drives Me We are the good guys of the glazing world ; repairing something that could cost thousands to replace is an incredible business model , and one with indisputable value . I really enjoy the work that I do and I love meeting the people who attend my courses . It ’ s great to be part of their journey , which could be setting up their own business or offering an extra service . It ’ s great when I receive comments such as from locksmith Kevin Adshead from Adlocks , a talented master locksmith , that he is now flooded with work thanks to coming on my course . Kevin is very active on social media and posts about double glazing repairs a lot .
The earning potential in this sector is exceptional ; profits on materials is high with some jobs particularly lucrative , and if you offer double glazing maintenance contracts , your running costs and wages will

be quickly covered by these scheduled works .
It ’ s satisfying for me personally making the difference to people ’ s lives by helping them offer a new trade to supplement their income . It makes me smile when I receive messages a year on saying how much their businesses have picked-up . Some of the guys have started doing subcontract work from maintenance companies .
Upskilling Diverse Trades
Next month , I have 10 people over three days from Essential Site Skills attending my UPVC tilt & turn training course – a one-day intensive course . They already have skilled double glazing repair people but they don ’ t have tilt & turn experience . I teach them how to completely renovate tilt & turns windows .
Another new one-day course of mine is patio / bi fold doors repair , this shows how to replace the locks , handles ,

rollers and tracks and how to adjust to optimum efficiency .
Clarion a large maintenance company sent a crew to us for training and I ’ ve got more coming in July .
Harrogate Council sent us their window and door team , who didn ’ t know much about UPVC because they were carpenters by trade , were used to working only with timber windows . Attending my course will save the council hundreds of thousands of pounds by upskilling the team .
I have recently enjoyed working with ex-forces from the Army , Navy and Police Force , the skills that they already have are a good grounding for the trade – great people skills and the ability to relate to members of the public – also being quite physically fit not afraid of hard work and great at problem solving .
I ’ ve even had landlords attend my courses so they can repair their own windows on the properties they own and save money . Someone is coming to me in September who sprays windows and doors with cosmetic , long-lasting , paint that looks really good . If they are learning how to repair the window they may as well know how to change the hinges and locking mechanisms
|
too , also how to upgrade the handles to brushed steel or polished chrome . These are useful extra skills know to enhance their service offering .
The Right Tools for the Job
I recently attended the launch of a new super window opening kit by Souber Tools . I always seek out new tools that can assist with everyday jobs , and upon seeing the demonstration , I immediately decided to purchase a kit for use at the academy we recommend each student has this in their toolkit , I also inform my students about tools that aren ’ t worth the investment , so they can avoid wasting money .
Everyone who attends my course receives a full tool kit and detailed instructions on how to use each tool , ensuring they are ready to start work immediately after the course . Additionally , they receive a comprehensive training manual available in both hard copy and digital formats , making it easy to refer to while on the job .
To further support my students , I run a backup via WhatsApp where they can reach out for help . They can call me for advice at any time , and this support is provided free of charge and without any subscription .
