I ’ ve met so many individuals and companies who have benefited from the FDM Courses , and now with the launch of our new courses even more people will be able to access the advice and resources they need to scale up and grow in the fire door market .
2024 is the year of the Fire Doors and whether it ’ s through access to knowledge , support and advice , or removing barriers to growth : we ’ re helping them go further than ever before .
The FDM Fire Door Courses are suitable for everyone , with content divided into easy-to-access modules consisting of short videos , practical hands-on product tasks and supporting resources covering the fire door concepts required to unlock growth . Nicola John , MD of FDM said : Enforced in January 2023 , the Fire Safety ( England ) Regulations 2022 regulations set new legal duties for those who own or manage multi-occupied residential buildings over 11m high . These include new procedures for checking fire doors to make sure they are still suitable after their original fire risk assessment . All fire doors regardless of the height of the building should be checked to ensure they are working correctly and are part of a buildings overall passive fire protection system .
The person legally responsible for a building ’ s fire safety , known as the ‘ responsible person ’ must carry out annual inspections on all flat entrance doors , and quarterly checks on fire doors within communal areas . A responsible
person is usually the building ’ s landlord or manager .
The overall aim is to ensure fire doors are in good working order , including checking for any defects which could undermine their ability to prevent fire and smoke from spreading .
Helping industry understand the clear benefits that taking time out of the business to sharpen fire door knowledge can have - and practical support on how to apply that to their own business cannot be overstated .
In 2024 , the year of the Fire Door Training , FDM will continue to support and engage with the fire door specialists , reaffirming their role as the engines of fire door compliance and the beating heart of fire safety for local communities and FDM courses builds on a raft of measures designed to help them meet their full potential . As the Home Office is working on a revised version of the Fire safety in purpose-built blocks of flats guide which they intend to publish in 2024 , all responsible individuals should note that they remain responsible for fire safety in their premises and should identify and implement measures specific to their premises and the people in them .
