Notice Board
The physicality of the facility itself is no mean feat . The centre takes up a floor of UAP ’ s site , starting with a classroom area and mock trade counter , trainees are then taken through an area that looks like a corridor in a modern tower block or multioccupancy building . Behind each door is another area focused on a different part of the learning process . Taking in all aspects of fire door and hardware specification , installation , maintenance and the shocking consequences of what can happen when it all goes wrong – by the time you ’ ve ‘ completed ’ the journey , you ’ ve had hands-on experience , practical guidance ( from third party trainers ) and the all-important theory work too .
Crucially , UAP and FDM believe it ’ s critical to include products from across the industry – not just their own – to offer the very best bespoke training and trainers ; experts in their field . With this in mind , doors and components have been provided by Harlow Timber Group , West Port , Latham ’ s Steel Doors , Unity Doors , Permadoor , Strongdor , The Sovereign Group , NSG Group , DoorCo , Rutland , Mann McGowan , Lorient , PDS , and Contactless Check Solutions , IG , GGF , Pilkingtons , Nordan , PWIDF and Specialist Door Solutions .
Celebrating through collaborating
Understanding the importance of collaboration is fundamental to UAP as a business and a brand . And this ethos is just as important internally , as it is working with other companies , if not more so . This is evident in this year ’ s National Fenestration Awards shortlist , where UAP is on the shortlist for no less than eight categories .
In the press coverage that followed the announcement , UAP ’ s CEO David Jennings explained “ the categories we have been nominated in shows the width and breadth of everything we stand for at UAP Ltd .” Those categories include : Hardware Company of the Year and Company of the Year for FDM Training , plus individual accolades for Director / Managing Director of the Year – Nicola John ( FDM ), Office Manager of the Year – Tasha Doyle , Social Networker of the Year and Sales Executive Of the Year for Barry Halpin .
Iconic in innovation
The IONIC Electronic Lock by Fullex-ai is also up for two awards : New Product 2024 and Door Component of the Year . Launched in 2023 following four years of research and development , the IONIC is the first in a series of smart products to be launched by UAP ’ s Fullex-ai brand . The IONIC ’ s high levels of security add to a range of features designed to improve the experience both for both fabricators and the end user .
More recently , UAP launched a new patented feature which sees the IONIC become the first electronic door lock to detect different forms of attack . Created thanks to haptic technology , which uses sensors to sense / detect the heat and vibrations , the innovation alerts the homeowner via their smartphone if there is any attempt to break in or risk of vandalism .
If the door is kicked , if a drill is used on the lock , or if someone tries to gain access without using the IONIC App or key fob , the homeowner will be notified immediately . The technology can also detect heat , so will send an alert if there is a fire outside the door or if a blow torch is used .
Putting all the pieces together
The above offers just a glimpse of UAP , and while it ’ s impossible to encompass it all in just 1,400 words , it ’ s just enough to demonstrate what ’ s really important at UAP . UAP never chooses between tradition and innovation . Fast approaching its 30th anniversary , it is firmly established but its eyes are fixed on the road ahead . The level of innovation at UAP is virtually unsurpassed in the industry . Investment in testing and development drives the business .
There ’ s no compromise between people and product . In fact , the two go hand in hand . Whether it ’ s nurturing individual talent within the business , training to collectively raise the bar across the industry , working alongside professional peers , and continually striving to make homes and businesses safer and more secure , people are at the heart of the operation .
The products could speak for themselves , but they don ’ t have to . Flick through any fenestration , building or architectural magazine and you won ’ t struggle to see a UAP article or news story . From the flagship TS008 letterplate gaining updated accreditation to the launch of Armasmart ®, a smart lock that detects forms of attack to market-leading door furniture – there are thousands of product lines leaving Bury every day to be installed all over the world . Plus many , many more being designed , developed , tested and trialled in the Orbital 60 lab , as we speak .
