How did you get into locksmithing ?
I was in the Army for 22 years , served in the Black Watch ( later the Royal Regiment of Scotland ), and upon leaving I was given training credits to train in a new profession ; I chose locksmithing and became a locksmith in 2013 . Being ex-Army , I was used to working under pressure , long hours and thinking on my feet – all of these skills were useful and transferable to locksmithing . I did my first training in Manchester , which taught me the basics , but that wasn ’ t enough for me . I didn ’ t just want to be a ‘ decent locksmith ’ but a ‘ proficient locksmith ’. I have always been of the mind : “ if you ’ re going to do something you might as well become the best you can be ” ( in your trade ). My locksmithing business is called AL Security Ltd and I ’ ve been a locksmith now for over ten years .
How did you get into locksmith training ?
I ended up training a fellow locksmith ’ s daughter from Glasgow who didn ’ t have the patience to train her himself . I don ’ t think her dad actually believed she was serious and he didn ’ t think she would listen for long enough . Having really enjoyed my first experience of training someone , I wanted to help others , plus I saw a niche in the market for Locksmith Training in Scotland , 99 % of the training is down south . Locksmith Training Scotland started in 2020 with a small unit with two benches in Falkirk , then we moved to my now training centre in Stirling .
