Engagement One of Google ’ s ranking factors is called bounce rate . This is how quickly a user clicks back away from the site . To improve bounce rate we need to keep a user engaged . This can be through a combination of engaging text , pictures , and videos . Just having a wall of text with a poor design will increase the chances of a user clicking away from your site , leading them to your competitors .
Title Tags
The title tag is one of the most important on page SEO elements . This is the wording written in blue above a result in Google ’ s search engine results pages ( SERPs ). With modern website builders there ’ s no need for coding anymore , to add things like title tags . It ’ s just a case of finding the relevant place within the site builder and adding your title tag .
Writing good title tags
• Try to keep your title tags under 60 characters to ensure they display correctly in SERPs .
• Place your keyword near the begging of the title tag .
• Make the title compelling to encourage clicks .
Meta Descriptions

Writing meta descriptions Aim for 50-160 characters to make sure the entire description is visible in SERPs . Include the primary keyword within the meta description .
Try to include a call to action within the meta description . This will increase the chances of somebody clicking through to your site .
Header Tags
Header tags are used to tell Google the hierarchy of your content . Tags range from H1 to H6 , with H1 been the most important . Using the correct headings within your content tells Google what the most important elements on the page are .
Internal Linking Internal links are links from within the content of your page , which link to another page within your website . To structure these correctly they should link from a portion of text within a page to another page relevant to that topic . This helps to provide a good UX by adding additional value to the reader .
When placing internal links you should use descriptive anchor text . Anchor text is the text that turns a clickable link from a web address such as www . example . com / upvc-door-reapirs to just text that displays “ upvc door repairs ”.
Image Optimisation
Images can help to increase user experience but if not implemented correctly can negatively affect website speed . Image file sizes should be compressed to increase the websites loading speed .
Alternative Text ( alt text )
Alt text is added to image files to tell Google what the image is about . This helps in telling Google that the images on the page are relevant to the text . Every image within your site should have good descriptive alt text . Add keywords to alt text but don ’ t over do it . Make sure the alt text makes sense in relation to the image .
Mobile Friendliness
With the increasing use of mobile devices , having a mobile friendly website is essential . Google has now switched to something known as mobile indexing first . This essentially means it ’ s more interested in how a web page displays on mobile devices than the desktop version . It ’ s now essential to have a responsive website design . This means your website will automatically rescale to display correctly on any type of device .
