As the company celebrates the 10th anniversary of its Asia Pacific business , APAC Managing Director , Mark Samuelson , reflects on the challenges and successes of the company ’ s approach to access control solutions around the world .
How we control access to physical spaces is continually subject to innovation and development . Many of the access control solutions we are familiar with today wouldn ’ t have even been an idea 33 years ago when Codelocks was first established in the UK . Now , with offices worldwide , and celebrating 10 years in APAC , Codelocks is looking forward to a bright , global future .
Globally , the access control market is set to be worth between $ 17 billion and $ 20 billion USD in 2030 . In Asia Pacific it is expected to more than double to around $ 840 million USD by the same date . Advances in technology are driving a lot of this market growth . People are not only becoming more comfortable around technology , but they are also becoming more reliant on it to run their lifestyles , particularly smart phones . It is only natural that locks and access control devices are part of a growing ‘ smart ’ ecosystem .
Across Asia Pacific , the access control industry is moving at an incredible rate . Smart lock systems are a feature of everyday life . They are being integrated with doors , gates , lockers and many more applications . Visitors commonly use a card or code at various touchpoints . Codes and cards are becoming more prevalent than keys throughout Asia . In many Asian countries , key cutting machines are simply not sold anymore – a clear sign of the direction of travel for the industry .
The continual development of access control products is vital . Working on the next generation of innovation and upgrades involves accommodating different market conditions and regulations across different regions . In Asia Pacific , this means working closely with cabinet makers and joiners , as well as architects and developers to ensure they can deliver the right locks for their systems – whether that is for retail and hospitality units , fire-safety doors or lockers for Aussie Rules football teams like Collingwood Football Club .
