“ We have a couple of contracts which can involve us travelling across the South Coast at the ‘ drop of a hat ’ but we manage to tie those jobs in with others to ensure we ’ re cost-effective . We also love to help other locksmiths cover jobs rather than them turning away work . We can also work together to get jobs covered , which helps to keep work within the locksmithing industry rather than being given to general maintenance firms .”
Tell us about the biggest challenge that you ’ ve experienced ?
“ Honestly , it ’ s been the difference between being an employee and an employer . Understanding and learning what the job really entails and how much stress it can put you under – it really is 24 / 7 . It ’ s all the ‘ box ticking exercises ’ that seem meaningless as an employee but are a necessity when running a business to avoid any serious repercussions as an employer .”

A safe : ‘ Del Boy Moment ’
There ’ s thinking ‘ outside the box ’ and there ’ s …. what happened to Daniel ?
“ Just last week I was talking to a supplier on the phone in the shop , when I committed the cardinal sin of going to sit on a safe , that had just been delivered . [ We always politely ask our customers not to sit on the safes , whether old or new , for their own safety and not to damage the safes ].
“ Needless to say , I should have adhered to my own

advice ( as I remembered a split second too late - that we had just unboxed this particular safe ) and , subsequently , I went straight through the box , arms and legs up in the air !
