SAFES

Back to Basics …

Safelock Systems Ltd is a trade distributor of locks for safes , stocking a range of products from leading manufacturers , such as LA GARD , dormakaba , and Tecnosicurezza . Director Jasmine Hunt-Brown gives us some information about the new LA GARD 700 Basic , a simple and intuitive safe lock suitable for domestic and light retail use .
LA GARD
LA GARD , now a brand owned by the dormakaba group , have been producing electronic safe locks for around 30 years . Locks such as the Basic , 39e and 66e had become an industry go-to standard and were often the first choice for electronic locking due to their ease of use , reliability , and familiarity .
The LG Basic , or LG Combo as it was sometimes known , was a favoured lock with a six-digit manager code , and the option to add an additional user code .
Not so Basic ….. The equivalent to the legacy LG Basic from the 700 Series is the 701 model , however , the setup and operation of 701 is quite different from the legacy lock LG Basic . There is a permanent Master user , eight-digit codes ( two-digit ID plus six digits ) and the code change process is different with # commands .
Globally , safe and vault markets commented that the 701 was unnecessarily complex and too different from the well-known and beloved LG Basic . Ever responsive , LA GARD released an addition to the 700 Series to meet the needs of this market , and so we are pleased to now offer the 700 Basic .
The Basic is back … Well , not strictly , it would be more accurate to say : ‘ the Basic is black ’.
The new 700 Basic
The 700 Basic operates exactly as the legacy LG Basic
The lock has one manager , one user and an optional Super Master Reset Code ( Which was a feature available on the old LG Basic , but not often promoted ). Codes are six digits in length , and the same traditional procedures are used to change code :
The legacy LG Basic
Legacy discontinuation
In the autumn of 2022 , LA GARD formally discontinued what is now known as the ‘ legacy ’ range and replaced it with the new 700 Series of safe locks , on a modern digital platform .
702 Display
The 702 Display model is proving to be popular with those customers who had previously used 39e , 66e and Supra – it has an easy-to-use display with full keypad control over features such as dual mode and user profiling .
702 Display offers a single , competitively priced option to cover what was previously , three different lock options .
