Squire send off for Nick Sanders MBE as he seeks world record e-bike ride

» ADVENTURER AND RECORD SETTER Nick Sanders MBE is seeking to become the first person to ride around the world on an electric bicycle , supported by British security manufacturer Squire .
CEO John Squire joined Nick for a security check ahead of his Guinness sanctioned 19,000-mile route that will last seven months .
A travel legend in the adventure cycling and motorcycling world , Nick is global brand ambassador for Squire ’ s premium ranges of cycle and motorcycle security products .
Carrying just a few essentials , Nick ’ s luggage of course includes Squire ’ s new wearable Chainlok™ ( which officially launches in October ) to keep his e-bike secure in some of the toughest environments .
Riding the new Yamaha Wabash e-bike , his adventure will take him across every continent and desert as well as some of the most famous mountain ranges in the world . Nick is testament to Squire ’ s ‘ toughness guaranteed ’ spirit , having cycled around the world twice , the second time in a Guinness record of 79 days in 1985 .
He ’ s ridden around the world eight times by motorbike – more than any other rider – and holds the Guinness Record for the fastest circumnavigation ever by vehicle in 19 days 4 hours , averaging 1002 miles each day .
He said : “ I ’ ll be locking my bike in about six continents of the world , and the most important thing is to make sure the bike doesn ’ t get stolen . Without that the project ends . To have Squire behind me is a real sense of pride . “ I ’ ve been adventuring as my only job for 43 years and have ridden across 168 countries and a million kms .
I ’ m now 65 and eligible for my bus pass , but the last thing I want is to shuffle around on coach tours having another cream tea …!” he said . “ I ’ m off again to look at environmental ideas I only partly understand and come back and try and make the world a better place .”

The Ride
Adventurer Nick Sanders age 65 starts from Machynlleth , Wales Thursday 7 September 2023 to try to become the first person to ride around the world using an electric bicycle .
Following a Guinness sanctioned 19,000-mile route the ride will last 7 months and return to Machynlleth in April 2024 .
The energy costs of the project when riding will be about 10p per day . Nick will be visiting major green installations on the way along with cottage sized local environmental concepts and reporting back three times a week on his Instagram @ nicksandersofficial .
The Rider
Supported by West Midlands company the world-famous Squire , the oldest lock manufacturer in the world and still family run , Nick Sanders was in 2019 awarded an MBE by King Charles for services to endurance cycling and motorbiking .
He has ridden around the world eight times by motorbike which includes a Guinness record of 19 days 4 hours for the fastest circumnavigation ever by vehicle averaging 1002 miles a day . He has also ridden the length of the Americas from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego eight times and holds the fastest time for that : 21 days .
Nick has cycled around the world twice before , the second time in a Guinness record of 79 days in 1985 averaging 79 days . He has also cycled across the Sahara , to the source of the White Nile , length of the Americas , across Asia and around the 4800-mile coast of Britain twice , the second time in a record 22 days averaging 221 miles each day .
He has also sailed two narrowboats from the Black Country to the Black Sea , the longest ever canal boat journey . He flies microlights and hot air balloons .
