Learning without limits
The automotive locksmith industry never stands still. New vehicle technologies, developing security systems, and increasingly complex programming tools mean professionals are expected to adapt faster than ever. But stepping away from day-to-day work for training isn’ t always practical.
That’ s exactly why we launched the Spring Forward Webinar Series last month, bringing the expertise of our IMIaccredited Training Academy directly to locksmiths wherever they were.
Over the past few years, webinars have become an effective way to share knowledge and provide customer support. They offer a practical, accessible way for auto locksmiths to sharpen their skills, stay current with the latest technologies, and build confidence in using modern tools and systems.
Our most recent series was designed to go beyond boring slideshow presentations, as every session focused on practical demonstrations in the workshop or on the vehicle, demonstrating real-world scenarios and techniques attendees could apply immediately on the road.
Bridging the skills gap
As vehicle systems become more advanced, access to clear, practical training has never been more important. Modern platforms can be complex, and many locksmiths are looking for guidance that prioritises real-world application over theory alone.
The Spring Forward Webinar Series was created to meet this demand, giving locksmiths valuable technical insight while showcasing the capabilities of our Training Academy.
With the exception of one session, every webinar featured live, step-bystep demonstrations focused on specific systems, tools, and programming procedures. Rather than relying solely on presentation slides, each session was built around realistic scenarios to ensure the training remained practical and immediately usable. Every webinar concluded with a live Q & A, giving attendees direct access to technical experts for tailored advice on the tools and techniques demonstrated in the tutorial.
To make learning even more accessible, nearly every session was also made available on demand after the live event, allowing busy professionals to revisit the training whenever it suited them.
Inside the webinar series The series covered a wide range of topics, chosen to reflect ongoing industry conversations and to examine the latest tools and technologies modern auto locksmiths increasingly face.
The first session was the‘ BMW Key Systems Deep Dive’, which explored BDC2, BDC3, and Ultra-Wideband( UWB) technologies, as well as advanced key programming techniques. As BMW security platforms continue to evolve, understanding these next-generation systems is becoming essential for locksmiths working with newer vehicles.
Next, we moved on to a popular session focused on‘ KEYDIY: Phone as Key.’ Attendees were guided through app configuration, device setup, PCB wiring, and the growing use of smartphonebased vehicle access systems, particularly relevant for fleet operators and modern vehicle management.
On day two, we jumped straight into the‘ VW Programming Masterclass,’ which delivered a detailed breakdown of MQB 5C / 5D programming, GEKO compatibility, and SFD unlock processes. For many locksmiths, mastering VAG programming opens the door to more advanced services and new business opportunities.
We concluded with‘ Tool Talk Live,’ an open discussion session that provided attendees with direct access to our technical team. This format allowed locksmiths to ask questions about the tools they use daily, explore new processes, or gain insights into new tools and equipment they were considering investing in.
Real results for auto locksmiths The webinar series did more than introduce new information; it gave attendees the confidence to apply these processes to modern vehicle systems with a clearer understanding of the tools, software, and workflows the industry has been asking for.
