Reaching for the skyra: dormakaba UK at MLA
» PARKING CERTAINLY wasn’ t an issue for dormakaba UK at this year’ s MLA Expo, the‘ stand’ was its very own mobile showroom; a fully-fitted truck complete with product displays, ready to take dormakaba on the road. But, as striking as the showroom on wheels was, the star of the show was‘ skyra’; the brand-new‘ access anywhere’ system for on-site access control, even in the most remote areas. skyra’ s physical suite comprises the rechargeable key with cylinders, cam locks, cabinet locks and padlocks; security systems you require on site. Beyond the physical product range however, it’ s the cloud-based platform and app that work seamlessly behind the scenes to provide access rights – managing and monitoring who can get in where, and when – connecting the users with the components, and vice versa.
Speaking to dormakaba at the MLA Expo, it became clear that skyra’ s value proposition is connectivity beyond technology. That’ s to say, the word‘ connectivity’ is used a lot in smart technology, but skyra delves deeper into the connection of people on and off site, physical and cloudbased safety and security, robust materials and modern technology, urban to remote settings. The tagline‘ multiple challenges, one solution’ is the perfect description.
From the project management stage to tracking on-site activity, emergency access, lost keys and sub-contractors, skyra offers a new solution to onsite issues that historically have drained time and money, not to mention caused a lot of headaches.
David Frampton Mechanical Key Systems Lead, said of the show:“ The 2025 MLA Expo was a great success for dormakaba UK Ltd. From the start of the first day our stand was busy and buzzing with both existing customers, and potential new customers, and this momentum continued for all three days of the event.
“ We had our mobile showroom incorporated into the stand architecture which allowed us to showcase more of our product portfolio than we have in previous years, including our door closers, access control, our push button locks and much more besides. Our pextra Q cylinder range was our main offering as part of our Mechanical Key Systems platforms and of particular interest this year were our padlocks including the latest IP68 weather covers, and
our special function cylinders including the SAT and SUZ variants.
“ Also on display was our new electronic cylinder platform“ skyra” that drew a lot of attention. The skyra system is based on our modular series of cylinders and padlocks and features a battery less electronic core and rechargeable skyra key which is used for access, programming, and maintenance.
“ It is the smart connecting element, transferring data from the door back to the platform and vice versa. New access rights are transmitted wirelessly via a skyra app on your smart phone. A great addition to the dormakaba portfolio skyra will take us to the next level in our physical security portfolio and we look forward to the next MLA Expo with excitement as we are keen to showcase more products currently in development.”
