Abloy UK launches new whitepaper to help secure Healthcare Estates
» SECURING HEALTHCARE ESTATES offers vital guidance to healthcare facilities managers on safeguarding people, premises, and sensitive assets across NHS and private healthcare environments.
The whitepaper outlines the increasing threats faced by healthcare estates- from theft and vandalism to unauthorised access and cyberattacks- and how innovative electromechanical access control systems can help mitigate these risks while improving compliance, operational efficiency, and sustainability.
The whitepaper explores how healthcare estates can effectively manage complex access needs across high-risk areas such as laboratories, plant rooms, and helipads, where security is critical but operational continuity must be maintained.
It examines the limitations of traditional key control systems and highlights how modern solutions can enhance keyholder accountability, streamline permissions, and reduce administrative burdens.
Regulatory compliance is a central theme, with detailed guidance on meeting the requirements of key UK legislation, including COSHH, PUWER, and the Regulatory Reform( Fire Safety) Order.
The whitepaper also highlights how switching from mechanical to electronic access control supports infection prevention, emergency response protocols, and digital oversight, offering estates teams complete flexibility to grant, revoke, and audit access remotely.
Simon Wilson, Business Development Manager- Healthcare at Abloy UK, said:“ Healthcare estates play a vital role in safeguarding staff, patients, and critical assets across hospitals, clinics, and care facilities. Yet, with growing demands on compliance, operational efficiency, and threat mitigation, physical security is often inadequately addressed, leaving healthcare environments exposed to risks such as theft, unauthorised access, and disruption of essential services.
“ Our Securing Healthcare Estates whitepaper delivers key insights into the access control and key management challenges unique to healthcare settings, outlining innovative solutions that improve patient and staff safety, ensure regulatory compliance, and enhance the overall efficiency of healthcare facility operations.”
