Plymouth Charity Event Aims to Raise Awareness for Men’ s Health

» THE PLYMOUTH BUSINESS CHARITY Group is set to host a special fundraising event at the Royal Citadel in Plymouth on Thursday 13 June in support of The Chestnut Appeal, a local charity focused on raising awareness of prostate, testicular, and penile cancer.
Held at the historic base of 29 Commando Regiment RA, the daytime event will bring together business professionals, veterans, and health advocates for an afternoon of education, networking, and fundraising. The itinerary includes a guided tour of the Citadel’ s battlements led by a serving officer, followed by a buffet lunch and drinks in the Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess.
Attendees will then move to the marquee for talks led by medical experts from Derriford Hospital’ s Chestnut Unit, covering early detection, treatment options, and aftercare. Personal stories from those affected by prostate cancer will also be shared to highlight the importance of regular testing and early diagnosis.
Guest Speakers Who Inspire
Guest speakers include Best Selling and award-winning military author Damien Lewis, who will speak about the real-life inspiration behind Lt Col Paddy Mayne DSO ***, and Major Gus March- Phillips DSO MBE, a Commando Gunner whose wartime exploits feature in the recent Guy Ritchie film The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. An additional special guest, who served on the now-famous“ balcony” mission, is also expected to attend.
“ The Citadel is the perfect backdrop for a day that mixes history, awareness, and community spirit.”
Charity Auction
In addition to presentations and networking, the event will feature both a raffle and a charity auction, with all proceeds going directly to The Chestnut Appeal. A highlight of the auction is a unique piece of military memorabilia that includes a reproduction of Hitler’ s infamous WWII Commando Order, surrounded by regimental badges and a Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knife.
