Isn’t the Host of the
party the O ne who
deserves the gift?
‘You know it’s Christmas when…’
T
here is always a big commotion during this time of the year. Families and
friends come together, streets are festooned with lights and colours, and
shops are packed with such a large variety of products to purchase that it’s
almost impossible not to overspend.
By tradition, we exchange presents with those who are important to us, and there
is nothing wrong with this gesture of affection towards our family and friends.
We choose the best we can offer, bearing in mind what they need or have always
wanted, and wrap it up in something beautiful to express the thought that went
into the gift.
Everyone receives a gift at this time of year – everyone, that is, except
the One whose ‘birthday’ it really is. Although the date has never been
scientifically or biblically proven, the world has chosen, out of the 365 days
in the year, the 25 December as the day to celebrate the birth of Jesus.
As Host of the party, is it not Jesus who is most deserving of a gift?
Wouldn’t you be a little annoyed if everyone who gathered to celebrate your
birthday received a gift, but you were forgotten all together?
So, if this date supposedly represents the birth of Jesus, why not give Him a
gift? You may be asking ‘But what gift could I possibly give the Owner of all the
world?’ There is nothing that pleases God more than you coming to Him. You
don’t need to spend a fortune. The best present you can give Jesus on His day
is simply your presence.

He will certainly be very happy to receive you as a guest in His home!
