dresswear depicting no other than the legendary
John Bull!
All profits from the day went to The Lord Mayor’s
Appeal and The Poulters’ Pelican Trust which they
hope will be in the region of £4,000.
The event employs the skills of a variety of other
liveries. Clockmakers time it, Gunmakers fire the
starting pistol, Glovers provide the white gloves
worn by the competitors and the Fruiterers provide
lemons.
Weather conditions were good, dry and somewhat
chilly and a large crowd of well-wishers gathered to
watch the spectacle which went on for 90 minutes
officiated by Judges, Starters, Marshalls and
Stewards! We were joined by the Lady Mayoress, the
Sheriffs and the Chief Commoner.
How did we do?
Well we thought respectably and if some of us had
not dropped the pancake during the toss we would
have done a lot better! We hope to have secured our
place for next year (save the date - 16 February 2021).
William won his heat with an outstanding run but
alas that was where our winning streak ended for
The Tobacco Pipe Makers and Tobacco Blenders.
