Who Is Lori Ericson?

I grew up in our family-owned cemetery and spent years as a newspaper reporter, but I'm not sure which experience helped more to shape the dark stories

that spill from my head. My husband, Lloyd, and I live in northwest Arkansas with our rescue dog Charlie, where I drag them both off to walk through old cemeteries occasionally. Lloyd insists those walks occur during the daylight hours.

Can you name a book that changed your life, and why?

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott — I loved the March sisters and loved their adventures. Reading this as young girl, I realized I could get myself lost in the narrative. I read it several times and never stopped reading.

What does your typical writing day look like?

I work full time as a city planner, but I find a hiding spot in City Hall and write for an hour at lunchtime. Otherwise, it’s an occasional evening and weekends.

What does success look like to you?

Spending my days writing and reading full time.

Share your guilty pleasure...

Putting on my pajamas right after work and curling up on my couch with my laptop.

What are you reading now, and name something you like and dislike about it.

Rise, How A House Built A Family by Cara Brookins — I love the story of the woman’s strength, her brutal honesty in telling it, and the way it moves back and forth between the building of the home and remembering the past that shaped her and her kids. The only thing I can say in the negative is that it’s not my typical mystery/thriller read. I’m trying to expand my horizons.

A Lovely Murder received The President’s Award and 1st Place in the Unpublished Manuscript contest from Ozark Writers League in 2015. A Lovely County, the first novel in the Lovely series, was published in January 2015. Look for A Lovely Grave in 2017 from Pen-L Publishing.
