Spring 2015
preregistration tags, on little sign boards, that were marked with folks' names, and easy to see. So I
figured—seeing I had a while to wait—that I would spend it walking around looking for where my
camp was going to go.
As I wandered the many paths I couldn’t help but to notice such a wide array of camps. This
was going to be one huge event when everyone got set up—I tell ya!
There were Military Camps
And there were Horse Camps.
There were Pow Wow folks
And a Civil War Camp area,
For both North and South.
And there was a area of SCA Medieval,
And many other timeline campers, too—
Campers from all over the world.
This was a beautiful camp. I stopped and visited a few folks to say “howdy,” and just to admire
the campsites. I didn’t see any of my friends’ camps, so I just kept walking until I found myself on
a path down by the lake, and then I had to stop and just take the moment in.
It was such a lovely place with all the sights and sounds of a big camp where many folks are
already settled in. I saw folks unload their gear, heard the sounds of guitars being strummed , and
children laughing: Playing games. Every once in a while you would hear a parent scolding their kids
for not helping. That alone reminded me of my own childhood when I'd like to run off when there
was work to be done.
It was a cool mix of modern and historical venues. Then, it dawned on me that I best find
traders’ row and see if I could find out where my camp site was going to be located. For an event
not open to the public yet, there was a huge amount of folks walking around having fun and visiting
each other.
It took me a good while to make my way to traders’ row, or should I say traders’ village! Wow,
this was going to be a huge rendezvous event, I thought to myself. Sure hope I get a good spot. From
what I could see, there were merchants selling every type of trade good ya can think of. I couldn’t
help but giggle at myself thinking that my mom and I were both going to have a ball shopping for
bargains.
Oddly enough, I still haven't seen any of my friends yet, which in its own right was weird, cause
some of those guys take a lot of pride in getting in first and getting the best sales spots. Then I
noticed a mountain of a man with a big ole beard as white as can be. Knew his face from an event
we did long ago.
