“I wanted to capture the speed of the racing car by
‘panning’ the camera. Instead of using a fast shutter
speed to “freeze the action” you use a slower speed
and track the car with the camera as it goes past.
When done well panning will give you a sharp car

and a background that seems to be “racing past“. It
takes a lot of practice - but is very satisfying when it
all comes together.
I used a shutter speed 1/160 sec for this photo.”
Top Tip – there are less crowds on qualifying day
which means it’s a lot easier to take photos.
