The Lineup 2014 Festival Season | Page 2

welcome to

the lineup

When was the last time you really listened to a song? Just sat down, and put your ears out to the music to listen? It seems to be a dying habit, listening and truly soaking in the music we hear. Yet in the summer, you’re quick to find fields full of people doing just that. It’s the power of music festivals, drawing massive audiences of strangers together with a few chords and lyrics. It’s a space where phones lose service, camera batteries die, and people connect with music again. The event is steeped in history — from Woodstock to early Jazz festivals — and it’s transformed to find a place in a modern society.

This magazine will be an annual production that serves as the ultimate guide to the major music festivals. The content will play to the “music festival” culture that permeates our nation — and the world — in the summer. It will feature highlights of bands to watch at music festivals and witty tips to help a festivalgoer manage their upcoming experience. “Where do I begin?” you ask. How about our trip guide to help you explore new festivals, spread across three continents. We didn’t estimate the price of the trip, but not because we don’t know our way around a calculator. This magazine doesn’t focus on the cost of festivals, but rather the festival itself. We understand you can’t get yourself to every major festival, but this guide is here to fill the gap, giving you a glimpse into a world when you can attend Coachella and Lolla and Glastonbury.

This magazine is for you, your guide to anticipating the upcoming music festival season and knowing just exactly how to “own” your listening experience in the audience. Cheers!

Yeah, we're doing that social media thing too. Instagram or tweet us your festival pics during the summer, and you might see them in next year's issue.
