BOARDING LIFE IN DOLMAN
Dolman Boarding House Pocklington School is a boys’ boarding
house which is home to around 23 boys aged between 7 and 14
years. As you can imagine, it is a lively fun place and that’s just how
we like it. Our aim is to create an environment where each boy
feels they can be themselves and express their thoughts and ideas; a
place where they will be listened to, encouraged to try new things and
are valued as an individual. Dolman boys have a strong bond. The
older boys look out and encourage the younger ones, and the younger
boys have some fantastic role models and big brothers around to look
up to. Friendships made in boarding can last a life time.

FROM THE BOYS
Boarding is very good and activities are the best. I have loads of friends in Dolman a lot of
them are 1st 2nd and 3rd years. I have 2 friends in my year one called Dillon Quinn and Kian
Doherty. We play loads of sports together and games,
sometimes they can be really annoying though but mostly
they are really fun.

LIFE AT DOLMAN BOARDING
At Dolman we all get along (well most of the time). All the staff
are fair and kind to us. My favourite day of the week is on
Sunday, we go on trips to places like Flamingo Land and ice skating, swimming, Energi
trampolining, rugby matches or museums. All preppies get to go to town on a Saturday with Mrs
Woodcock and we all get to bring two pounds she tries to teach us to save up which most of us
have accomplished. Mrs Briggs is one the funniest and kindest teacher she lets us be as free as
we want but not be too silly, we all go outside and play out until late then come in and go to
bed. Mrs Bradshaw, house mistress is letting all year 6 boys, Kian, Lewis and me have the same
rules as 1st years we get our phones and get to go to bed the same time and truck loads more
in preparation for moving up to 1st year.
Overall Dolman is amazing!

LIFE OF BOARDING
Boarding is fun I love all of the really fun activities we do on weekends. On
some weekends, I don’t stay every weekend because I am a weekly boarder
(Monday to Friday) but sometimes I choose to stay for the
weekend I always have real fun. Us year sixes have been given
privileges (transition for 1st year), before we were all in a
room together and never had to put sheets and pillow cases
on our bed but when we were getting close to having these privileges we
started doing all of that we have the privileges we aren’t in the same room we
go to bed later and have more free time. It’s a very good environment to live in,
it feels like home. I’m glad I had the choice to come and try boarding.
