Over the course of the season three school records were broken: Laura

800m record in 2 minutes 48.01s and Belle Sweeting Year 5 150m record;
150m record of 22.39s.
The first two of these records were achieved at the
HMC event in Gateshead where Luke Woodhead also
came first in the ball throw. Several others finished in
podium places:
Belle Sweeting 3rd Y5 Long Jump
Tabitha Speight 2nd Y4 Long Jump

Charles Wright 2nd Y4 Ball throw
Apart from these results several of the children
reached finals and achieved personal best
performances.
The school took nearly fifty children to a meet at St
Olave’s in May which saw the girls perform
outstandingly to win the overall girls’ event and the
boys competed extremely well, the U9s winning their
particular age group.
At the North Eastern Prep Schools event held in
Doncaster, Laura, Niamh and Luke continued their
run of form and qualified in first place for the
National finals in Birmingham in 800m girls, 1500m
girls and 800 boys respectively. The boys relay also
qualified in first place with an outstanding run: Harvey
Laverack, Alex Preece, Luca Maude and Luke
Woodhead. Two more children gaining places for the
finals were Islay Cunliffe-Lister and Imogen Spear. At
the Alexander Stadium, Birmingham all the children
were in awe of the size of the stadium and by the
quality of the opposition. They all performed to the
best of their ability and thoroughly enjoyed the day.
The School’s Sports’ Day went ahead in searing heat
and displayed some scorching performances,
especially Belle Sweeting with her record-breaking
sprint. All the children from Pre-School to Year 6
managed the
conditions
amazingly well and
enjoyed the racing.
Well done everyone
for a fabulous
season of athletics.

Cricket this year has been good. We have won and lost
matches. We have won 2 out of 4 matches we have played. We
got into the quarter final in HMC cricket but we lost to
Ashville. We have two matches to go, one at Hymers College
and one at Minster school. We have got a great team. Both
our bowling and batting is excellent.

Under 8s Rugby
Year 3 showed real promise and enthusiasm
during the rugby season in the Michaelmas
Term.
It was particularly pleasing to see everyone
in
the year showing a real commitment to
improving their skills and understanding of
the
game during Games sessions. Theo Bayra
m’s
strong running and determined defence was
a
key feature in both Games sessions and at
fixtures against other schools and his super
b
attitude and approach certainly inspired other
s
in the year group to work harder to impro
ve.
Austen Butterley’s fast feet and electrifying
pace always caused other teams real probl
ems in defence and
was thrilling to watch. One highlight of the
season was competing at the Tag Rugby Tourn
ament at
Richmond House where all involved had
an excellent opportunity to show off what
they had learned. There
were strong performances from everyone
most notably from Evan Beharrell, Austin
Bailey and Austin
Campbell whose dogged defence and direct
running was excellent to see. All in all an
excellent season for
the Under 8s and I look forward to seein
g them continue to progress next year. Keep
up the good work!
Under 10s Hockey
It has been an excellent season for the U10s
in Hockey this year during the Lent Term
. All involved showed
excellent commitment during training and
matches, displaying a real desire to impro
ve and learn. Games
sessions focussed on developing the basics
skill sets to be successful, as well as lots of
conditioned game
play to introduce rules and tactics of the
game. Oscar Cowling’s composure on the
ball and excellent
decision making was evident throughout
the term and a real feature during fixtures
against other schools.
Joseph Girking’s determination and bliste
ring pace was also on show in both traini
ng and fixtures and it was
excellent to see his skills improve as a result
. In fixtures against other schools all who
took part acquitted
themselves excellently showing real team
spirit and comradery both when winning
and losing. Hugh Bailey
and William Carver showed excellent leade
rship throughout the season keeping a positi
ve atmosphere
throughout all sessions and fixtures. Luke
Wood’s passing from the back and relentless
tackling in defence
gave his team a real platform to build from
and was a credit to his attitude and appro
ach. In summary a
fantastic season for all involved and I look
forward to seeing them continue to progr
ess and develop next
year. Well done!
Under 9s Cricket
It has been pleasing to see the Under 9s
improve their cricket skills throughout the
Summer Term. In
training the enthusiasm of the group has
been excellent and they have shown a real
commitment to
improving their skills. There have been some
impressive performances in school fixtur
es where everyone
has had a chance to represent the schoo
l. Thomas Rook has been a consistent perfo
rmer with both bat and
ball and has led excellently in the field to
support his teammates. Sebastian Staal and
Toby Mackenzie have
lead by example with some excellent displa
ys in school fixtures as well as a superb attitu
de on training. It
has been pleasing to see everyone in the
year enjoy playing in school fixtures and
getting a chance to put
their skills to the test in a competitive enviro
nment. I look forward to seeing all the boys
continue to
progress next year moving in to year 5. Excel
lent work!
Under 10s Cricket
What a fantastic term for U10 cricket. It
has been so pleasing to see everyone in the
year not only improve
their skills but also really gel and develop
as a team. All the children are now confid
ent in understanding the
various fielding positions and this is a credit
to their hard working approach in Game
s sessions. During
fixtures against other schools, they have
put in some excellent performances and
work together fantastically
to create positive competitive environmen
t on the field. William Foley has lead by exam
ple with both bat
and ball, putting in some quality performan
ces. Nathan Yu has developed superbly havin
g not played cricket
before this year to playing in the A team
by the end of the term. His support of his
teammates and
determination have been particularly impre
ssive. There have been many other notab
le performances from
many in the year group and I have no doub
t if they continue to work hard together
they will progress both
individually and as a team. Keep it up guys!
