his month at Western Hills students in the upper grades have been hearing biographies about famous women to mark Women's History Month. It's been fun introducing 3rd-5th graders to the extraordinary lives and accomplishments of women with whom they may not be familiar such as Wilma Rudolph (three-time Olympic gold medal winner); Anne Carroll Moore (advocate for Children's Reading Rooms and Collections in public libraries); and Molly Pitcher (the first female sergeant in the Continental Army).
Kinder and first graders learned about the Galapagos Islands and about the fascinating and unique wildlife that inhabit these islands. They were also able to search through the images from the World Heritage website on these islands. Using a great non-fiction rhyming title, "We're Sailing to Galapagos," they learned several interesting facts about the birds, reptiles, and marine creatures before exploring online.
