Also, the fourth grade students spent an extra three hours in the library on top of their normal library time in order to complete their holiday research project. Students were introduced to several databases, research books, and encyclopedia use all in hopes of developing the necessary 21st century skill in research and critical thinking.

The first Brown Bag Book Club session came to a close Dec. 23rd. The fourth grade participants spent lunch in the library once a week with myself to read through and discuss The Chocolate Touch by Patrick Skene Catling. We enjoyed wonderful conversation, great invented chocolate, and a little chocolate research as well. The next session for the fourth graders wanting to participate will begin Mon. Jan. 30th. I can't wait to see what they select to read next!

It is a desire of mine to begin a maker space program in the library. This program would present collaborative groups of students with engineering challenges that they would have to solve through building some form of a solution and testing its effectiveness. I made a small attempt with this with the 1st grade library lessons right before winter break. Students heard the story The Gingerbread Man and had to build a bridge in order for the gingerbread character to cross and make it to safety without being eaten by the fox. It was a huge success and a lot of fun too!
